Biden: Chance of filibuster on Alito stronger

WASHINGTON (Reuters) - The chance of a filibuster to halt the Supreme Court nomination of Judge Samuel Alito rose on news he once opposed 1960s Supreme Court rulings on reapportionment based on the principle of equal voting rights, a top Democrat on the Senate judiciary panel said on Sunday.

Sen. Joseph Biden, a Democrat from Delaware, told Fox News Sunday that a decision by Democrats to filibuster would depend largely on Alito's answers during judiciary committee questioning scheduled for January.

Prior to the Warren court's decisions, some state legislators were elected on a geographical basis, giving thinly populated rural areas more political heft than urban centers.

"If he really believes that reapportionment is a questionable decision -- that is, the idea of Baker vs. Carr, one man, one vote -- then clearly, clearly, you'll find a lot of people, including me, willing to do whatever they can to keep him off the court. We don't know that. We have to hear it," Biden said. "That would include a filibuster if need be."

Asked if this increased the chances of a filibuster, Biden said: "Well, I think based upon that job application where he said he strongly held these views, yes."

Biden's been in the Senate for so long, he's starting to believe his own hype.

He can go ahead and try, but it won't do him any good.

Maybe we need an AGE limit for members of Congress too. How old is Biden, 63? Not too old but he first got elected in 1972. He and too many others believe they should hold these seats for life. Many members are in their 70s and 80s.

Can you imagine how people who voted for the slimeball would feel if they really had a conscience?

I would go with an age limit, albeit reluctantly.

I suppose I mentioned that half jokingly. No way it would ever happen. But term limits should happen. So far there has been little luck in getting them approved. The salaries and perks must be awfully good for so many of these members of the House and Senate to want to remain in office for many decades, even well into their senior years.

Amazing that I was born at the same time as his Senate career, and he will run yet again for president the same year that I will first be elligible.

Hehehehe....

Biden just doesn't get it. Americans want Alito. Its a mionority of leftest wing nuts who are excoriarating themselves to keep Alito away, so they can pressure for a wing nut judge who favors leftest socila engineering.

Biden, you have tied yourself to a falling star. America has changed! It's freeper territory NOW! Retire or take some smarten-up pills please!!!!

Does Biden have even the most basic grasp of what he is bloviating about? Follow me on this:

a) Biden is Senator from Delaware

b) Delaware has two Senators out of 100, or two percent of the voting power in the Senate

c) The population of Delaware is roughly 830,000, while the population of the United States is roughly 294,000,000.

d)That means that the population of Delaware is roughly one-third of a percent of the population of the US, yet they control two percent of the Senate

e)So, clearly, tiny Delaware's representation on the Senate disproportionately gives a thinly-populated rural area such as Delaware more political heft than urban centers

If it's wrong for state legislators to have geographic representation, then surely it is wrong for US Senators to have geographic representation. I strongly urge Biden to resign immediately, and work to change the Constitution to ensure that Delaware's clout in the Senate is immediately reduced to reflect one man, one vote.

Biden can fillabuster because he knows the rinos will not go for the nuclear option. There aren't 50 votes in the senate for it or it would have happened in may.

These dems blocked a brilliant hispanic lawyer in estrada they will have no problems blocking a white male.

Reagan Library gave the dems the ammo they needed for the fillabuster. I bet the placed is staffed with rinos approved by Nancy Reagan. Why couldn't Reagan family have kept those records sealed like Bush 41 has done. These records are used to give the dems the ammo they need against conservative judges.
