Coming Soon to your TV courtesy of MoveOn.org. Will Conservatives Respond?

Posted on 11/21/2005 3:28:10 PM PST by Miami Vice

From : Tom Matzzie, MoveOn.org Political Action Subject : Deadline: Push back on Bush's Iraq smears.

A real debate about Iraq has broken out in Congress but Republicans are lashing out at war critics. Don't let them get away with that. Push back by helping to put our new TV ad on the air. We need to raise $250,000 TODAY to get the ad up before TV stations close their ad departments for Thanksgiving. Will you contribute?

Dear MoveOn member,

Last week a real debate about how to change course in Iraq started in Congress. Now Republicans and the Bush administration are lashing out—trying to smear their critics. They called former war-supporter and Vietnam veteran Rep. John P. Murtha (D-PA) a "coward."1 A new Republican TV ad attacks Democratic Senate Leader Harry Reid in his hometown.2

To make sure the Republican offensive doesn't silence critics we've put together a new TV ad. But to put the ad on the air, we need to raise $250,000 today. Just $50 from 5,000 of us will make a big difference. Will you contribute? Click below.

https://political.moveon.org/donate/thanksgiving.html?id=6395-5096225-kcrUHg3DdaqbaFbVtQKleg&t=3

We will only be able to run this ad if we raise the money today because the ad departments at TV stations close earlier for Thanksgiving week.

Even a small contribution will put the ad on the air if we all chip in. If we beat the goal, we can expand the ad to the hometowns of Republican members of Congress who are pushing these smears.

This is a critical moment. The Bush administration and the Republicans in Congress are backed into a corner and trying to slash their way out by casting war critics as cowards. We've got to stay on the offensive.

Together we can encourage voters in these representative's hometowns to let them know they want a plan for getting out of Iraq. With the president's approval ratings below 40 percent and the Iraq war more unpopular than ever, we're finding that Americans are with us even in towns historically supportive of the war.

The TV ad can make a big difference if we act quickly. MoveOn is entirely member funded so it is up to each of us. Please take just a minute to click on the link below and make a contribution to put the new ad on TV.

https://political.moveon.org/donate/thanksgiving.html?id=6395-5096225-kcrUHg3DdaqbaFbVtQKleg&t=4

The ad, titled "Home for the Holidays," uses the backdrop of a Thanksgiving dinner to remind viewers that their representative should support a plan to bring the troops home. (Check out the story board in this e-mail.) The ad closes by urging people to call their representative and ask him or her to "Support the troops and bring them home."

If we can swamp them with thousands of calls from the ads they'll get the message that smearing leaders who are working to get us out of Iraq is the wrong choice.

Democrats in Congress did their part by starting a real debate about Iraq. Now it is our turn with this new TV ad. It will help end the war and make clear that, in 2006, we need to change course in Iraq and change course on Election Day.

Thanks for all you do,

–Tom, Rosalyn, Eli, Jennifer and the MoveOn.org Political Action Team Monday, November 21st, 2005

Newsflast MoveOn -- They had the chance to vote for running away on Friday... over 400 people (all but 3 dimocraps) voted against it.

Should'a ran with this last week, but you got greedy and stuck to the plan on framing the debate... Fitz, then special closed session, then polls, then Murtha, THEN you.

I'll give them credit, very few people have the balls to actually add a footnoted citation to their lie that actually reveals it as a lie.

Will Republicans respond? We need an add with a group of Iraqi vets to step forward and demand America stand behind them to finish the job. If I got a call from the GOP asking for money for that, I'd be forking over the cash.

Dear MoveOn.org member:

Thank you for your contribution to our righteous cause of $2,000.

We used it to feed Rob Reiner and Michael Moore breakfast.

Sincerely,

"Democrats in Congress did their part by starting a real debate about Iraq."

And if my memory serves me correctly the "real debate" was whooped by a vote of 403-3. Send your money, Moveone.org members. Money well wasted.

BWAHAHAHAHA!

Why should Republicans respond? The Democratic Platform promotes murder of children. Can you say 'dead man walking' ...maybe not in today's ungodly secular society but most certainly Spiritually.

I am not sure that people want politics with their turkey. This perpetual casmpaign is getting old. In the real world we all have family, friends, relatives, and associates who have their own political ideas which do not take up every waking moment of our attention. We want a nice thanksgiving, thanks. I will spend it with a bunch of New Yorkers and we do best without politics.

LOL. Let them run it. Cowardly ads driving home their cowardly "cut and run" message just puts one more nail in the Dem 2006 coffin.

As Ralph Peters said on yesterday's NY Post Op-Ed page:

"Just set a time-table for our troops to come home and show the world that America is an unreliable ally with no stomach for a fight, no matter the stakes involved. Tell the world that deserting the South Vietnamese and fleeing from Somalia weren't anomalies — that's what Americans do.

While we're at it, let's just print up recruiting posters for the terrorists, informing the youth of the Middle East that Americans are cowards who can be attacked with impunity."

Mainstream America understands this, while the Dem Left is completely clueless. Their party's '08 candidates must be spitting mad over the thought of this ad, which will turn out out to be one more in a mile of obstacles they will have to overcome to even have a prayer of getting elected.

OK I'll make a sheepish confession. Until George Bush's second term I had never voted for a Republican before. Three things made me begin to question every premise and argument of liberalism and I gradually made a 180 degree U-turn. First and foremost the events of 9/11; Second the courageous resolve and actions of the President; and third but not the least the absolutely scandalous, shameful, and disgusting behavior of my fellow democrats who have shown their true priorities under any circumstances which is THEIR own power and party politics rather than their country's and indeed the world's future.

I kick myself every time I think of all the money and energy I poured into liberal causes -- think of all the fabulous shoes I could have owned instead!

FR has been my education. Thank you FReepers -- even the grumpy ones! -- for opening my eyes to some realities!

These sorry bastards never quite seem to move on. It's always one breathless appeal after another. It never stops. It never "moves" beyond the latest hysterical idiocy.

Same story, different verse.. Bring the troops home, bring the troops home, is the cry now, whereas before it was 'win the peace' and whatever it was before that..

I guess they're going for the name of 'morons.org' - either that or they're stuck on stupid again. Umm, yes, we want to bring the troops home, but we don't want to just abandon the field to wacko liberals and their terrorist sympathizers. When the situation is stabilized, we will bring our troops home.

You know, it is called an 'exit plan.' Something that was absent in Kosovo and Korea. We win, they lose, and the terrorists don't get a new Middle East base. Aww, heck, truth be told, this has been the worst thing for terrorism ever. Not only have they wasted thousands of recruits on military forces, but they've actually succeeded in getting other Arab governments in the area to expend at least a little effort in cracking down.

Way to go, idiots.

So, please, Morons-r-us, run your little campaign, get Katie Coric to smile oh so big while telling us all breathlessly about it, and again waste more money from your liberal followers that won't be there in 2006. A win-win-win for us whereas the only actual 'good' result that can come from their campaign is that, well, they'll bring the troops home (which will happen anyway.)

Pathetic.
