At 11:04:45 AM ET Monday CNN was airing Vice President Dick Cheney's speech live from the American Enterprise Institute in Washington -- when a large black 'X' repeatedly flashed over the vice president's face!

The 'X' over Cheney's face appeared each time less than a second, creating an odd subliminal effect.

As this DRUDGE REPORT screen capture reveals, while one 'X' flashed over Cheney's face CNN ran a headline at the bottom of its screen: "CHENEY: I DO NOT BELIEVE IT IS WRONG TO CRITICIZE."

One top White House source expressed concern about what was aired over CNN.

"Is someone in Atlanta trying to tell us something?"

A CNN spokesman did not return repeated calls late Monday night.

The day after the 403-3 vote I told my wife three things:

1. The Democrats are caught totally wrong footed on the strategy they had planned for the elections next year and are now working on strategies on what to do about it.

2. The left wing of the Democrat party is totally shell shocked with their world turned upside down over their heads. After all, according to their world view here was their chance to ensure Bush was the evil guy and all they had to do was count the votes proving how wrong Iraq was, yet all they got was 3 lousy votes.

3. The left media is going to turn very vindictive and spiteful.

Obviously what we see here is my third point. One thing this proves for sure is how much of an ass-whoopin we gave them in the Congress. Be happy about that. :)

I wonder. Is our hyping of the X going to help or hurt? Cheney gave a great speech but I bet you dollars to donuts nobody is going to even know what he said because of the dustup. The average sheeple will buy that it's a glitch.

I was thinking the same thing... and the text would have to be some kind of in-house editing instructions.. BUT, and that's a big 'BUT', the only time I've ever seen anything slip like this was on some cheap (relative to the cost of what CNN's equipment is) equipment used in my High School. This kind of stuff won't happen on the equipment that NETWORK TV studios have.

Three possibilities-the equipment crapped, the operator screwed up, or it was a deliberate action by the operator. At this point, we really don't know which.

It says "Transition begins after 5 frames of black". This was determined by taking frames of the video with the X present and without the X present, and doing a subtraction, which left only those parts of the image that had changed. That clearly revealed the mystery message. The question is, then, is this a standard message that the equipment gives during routine operation, or was it added in by a malicious operator as a CYA to deflect blame away from himself and onto the equipment? I can't answer this, I am only speculating.

I hope it is not dismissed as a "mistake" and that the FCC goes after CNN. There is no way that this was any kind of mistake (except maybe for getting caught). Subliminal messages are illegal and at the very least, this is highly unethical. The MSM credibility is zero. I am totally disgusted with the antics that these people engage in.

Maybe CNN's advertisers should have second thoughts too, especially if there is public pressure to pull their ads. No newspaper or TV network can survive without advertising dollars. FCC fines and loss of advertiser revenue should be the result of this BS.

Yeah. I'd like to know what kind of "technical glitch" causes a huge, black "X" in the middle of the screen. Why have we never seen this "glitch" before? Over 5 years ago, I had our Dish Satellite System installed to be able to get Fox News. Our local cable system refused to carry FNS.

When the installer finished the installation, he went through how to use the remote and trouble shot problems.

After that demo, he asked if I had any questions.

I replied, "Show me how to block a channel", and he said which channel or channels. I said, "CNN!".

He laughed and said that was a common request. He showed me how to block CNN, and it has remained block since then.

The bias at CNN and stunts like this will keep CNN blocked on our satellite system.

Eventually advertisers will tire of CNN chasing away conservatives and stop advertising with CNN. CNN has a smaller audience and often gets a higher ad rate than Fox News. The boards of those companies, which allow the payment of a higher rate, might find themselves in some future SEC investigation. Keeping CNN afloat is not a valid profit objective for any corporation.
