New U.N. Scheme: Alliance of Civilizations (Rosett)

NEW YORK — After the epic disaster of , one might imagine the United Nations would tread carefully before launching any new and controversial efforts. Hardly.

Still reeling from scandals on many fronts, the U.N. has launched another questionable initiative, called the , which is due to hold its first meeting this weekend in Spain. The program has been widely touted by U.N. Secretary-General as a bridge across cultural and religious divides, but it involves a daisy-chain of dubious associations that casts serious doubt both on the project itself and on the U.N.’s ability to cut loose from the scandals of the past decade.

...

But one lane of the bridge is a lot wider than the other: the panel of 18 “eminent persons” whom Annan named to the Alliance (a 19th, representing all of East Asia, has yet to be named) is weighted heavily on the side of Islamic states,....There are two representatives from the U.S., but none from Israel.

Nor is it exactly clear what the Alliance is intended to accomplish. According to a statement issued by Annan in July, the Alliance is supposed to “overcome prejudice, misconceptions, misperceptions, and polarization” and assemble by late next year an action plan meant “to promote effective responses to emerging threats to world peace.” But in the short term, the Alliance has so far been mainly busy hiring its own secretariat on an initial budget of $3.7 million, and preparing for the first meeting of its ‘High-level Group” this weekend in Majorca, Spain.

Beyond its hazy mandate and vague chain of command — both similar to some of the flaws in U.N. methods criticized by investigation of the Oil-for-Food scandal — the most striking things about the Alliance are the close aides Annan has used to organize and supervise the venture.

There are two representatives from the U.S., but none from Israel.

And I wonder who the two U.S. representatives are? Janeane Garofalo and Al Franken?

Nor is it exactly clear what the Alliance is intended to accomplish.

To employ and enhance the bank accounts of the cleptocrat thugs that are part of the rotting, poisonous, corrupt UN.

Is my gaddamned tax money helping to fund more of this Fourth-World, Three Stooges bull squeeze again? Our, *ahem* 'standing' in the world isn't going to improve one iota as long as these genetic defectives are allowed any sway on the planetary stage. Find me one politician with the cojones to tell them either to guzzle a nice tall glass of STFU, or kick them into the Hudson, and I won't care if they're a candidate for the Whig party at this point. We need a Buford Pusser that'll swing a 2X4 at these Marxist parasites.

'Diplomacy', in it's current incarnation, is for rubes and wimps.

This nauseating thing was actually the brainchild of Spain's disgraceful PM, Rodriguez Zapatero. ZP was elected solely out of fear and left-wing manipulation (complete with little riots - er, I mean "peace marches") after the Muslims attacked Spain, and within a few weeks, he announced his "Alliance of Civilizations."

Essentially, it means that the Muslim world will be bribed and sweet-talked and given anything it wants, and that the radical left in other places (such as Venezuela, one of Zapatero's favorite places) will be given a major role in running things. He has been doing it on his own, having the Spanish government build mosques and institute classes in Islam in Spanish public schools (although Spain actually has one of the smallest Muslim populations in Europe), and aiding and abetting his radical leftist buddies by selling them arms and giving them other aid. The US had to step in and make him back off from selling high-quality naval material to VZ, although he seems to have circumvented this by selling it to VZ through France.

This "Alliance of Civilizations" crud is basically a way in which the West hands over power to a union of Islam and the radical left.

Khatami arrives in Spain to attend UN meeting on civilizations

Former Iranian President Mohammad Khatami, commissioned by UN Chief Kofi Annan as a member of the UN group "Alliance of Civilization", arrived in Spain's Mallorca Island Saturday night to participate in the first meeting of high ranking UN group's first session.

Khatami, along with seventeen other members of the newly established UN group, are commissioned to survey the practical ways for proximity among civilizations, holding dialogue among them, and to present their scheme for the purpose to the UN.

Members of the group, comprised of prominent international political and cultural personalities, were appointed as its members in August 2004 after accepting Secretary General Kofi Annan's proposal on the purpose.

The first three-day gathering of the Group "Alliance of Civilizations" would start its activities on Sunday morning after watching a video message by Kofi Annan, hearing the message of Spain's Socialist Prime Minister Jose Luis Rodriguez Zapatero, and his urkish counterpart Recep Teyeb Urdugan.

Khatami was received upon arrival in Mallorca from Frankfurt by Islamic Republic of Iran's Ambassador to Madrid Morteza Alviri, a number of Spanish officials, and the organizers of the UN small-scale gathering.

The UN group is expected to bring together Western and Muslim states in the fight against radicalism.

The group will gather in Palma de Mallorca in Spain's Balearic Islands to set in train an idea first mooted last year by Spanish Prime Minister Jose Luis Rodriguez Zapatero at UN headquarters in New York.

The group, co-chaired by Spanish former UNESCO director general Federico Mayor and Turkish minister of state and theology Mehmet Aydin, are due to come up with a range of recommendations next year.

And AoC funded ASMA, the organization founded by the imam who is part of the ground zero mosque effort.
