Bwah-ha-ha-ha...I bet Pope Benedict is just shaking in his shoes right now; wringing his hands; how will the Church deal with this "long battle"? Will we have enough troops?

Oh wait, note to "gay rights activists"........THE VATICAN DOESN'T GIVE A RIP WHAT YOU THINK

Gay rights activists and liberal Catholics girded

Girded? I bet they did something else. Or has that word been hijacked too?

I am not sure that "Gay rights activists and liberal Catholics" are actual followers to lost. I would say that they are already gone, but just don't know it yet.

I must have missed the part where the moral values of the Church became something that were voted on.

I thought that homosexuals only make up 2% of the population. Are they saying the whole 2% will drop out because the Catholic Church doesnt want gay priests? Liberals???. I never met a liberal who wanted their kids molested by fag priests.

When we speak of Boston is there really a difference between homosexuals and liberals?

The Church may lose a few people, but not near as many as they will lose if gay Priests keep molesting children and the church does nothing. In my hometown I will stick my neck out and say we wont lose one Catholic because of this.

Liberals just don't get this

The Catholic Church operates under authority
Scripture / Tradition / Papal
And without the underlying authority
would be just a big social group

They must remain true to the authority under which
They obtain their empowerment

If the Bible says that Homosexuality is sinful,
and Papal authority upholds tradition,
And that the ordained ministers must be sober
and upright in character, not given of the sins of the flesh
Then that's what they must hold to.

Or their witness grows dark, the spirit fails,
and grace is withdrawn

And they become just another big social club

"...predicting the Church would lose thousands of followers in the United States."

Good riddance. It's not a popularity contest.

Smart money says the Boston Catholic Church will split from the Vatican by 2015.

What battle do gays and liberal Catholics have in mind? Do they expect polls and public opinion to sway Pope Benedict? These people are too full of themselves.

A while back, I heard one of Air America's finest state that the Ten Commandments were "problematic." He had a particular problem with the concept of "Thou Shalt Not Commit Adultery." So, this is no surprise, really.

"The Catholic Church would lose thousands of future priests in the United States ..." said Marianne Duddy-Burke of gay and lesbian Catholic group Dignity USA in Boston.
Exactly - thank God!

What do they plan to do exactly? Take the Pope to Federal Court? I wouldn't put it past 'em. My bet is these guys don't go every Sunday anyway (or maybe not even ANY Sunday).

"Gay rights activists and liberal Catholics girded on Wednesday for a long battle...."

Should say: Gay rights activists and liberal Catholics girded their loins and puckered their sphincters on Wednesday for a long battle....

There are approximately 56 million Catholics in the United States. If a "few thousand" leave the church because of this issue, we only have 55.95 million remaining. Hmmmmm.....

well the ones that leave will most likly be the gays and the gay priests, saving the church billions in child abuse claims. Don't you just love it when a plan comes together. But I don't think they will leave because they want to take over the church and have a gay as the pope.

Since priests are supposed to be celibate, I don't see whether it's a problem whether they're attracted to people from the same sex or the opposite sex. They aren't supposed to act on these tendencies either way so it doesn't matter. Furthermore, I think that the fact that B16 is dealing with this instead of preventing pedophiles from becoming priests or making sure that archdioceses are reporting any incidents to the police.

predicting the Church would lose thousands of followers in the United States.

... thousands of followers who apparently can't read the biblical injunctions against homosexuality and consequently aren't really "followers" as much as renegades.

And for every one of those tepid Christians, I suspect the Church will gain an adherent who is edified by the unflinching adherence to God's word.

It's a good trade.

It's high time the Screamers got booted out of the clergy.

They have literaly been rotting out the Catholic Church from the inside like a cancer ever since Vatican II.

Why JPII kept his head buried in the sand over this issue I'll never understand.
