Boston Concedes that "Holiday Tree" is a Christmas Tree
Liberty Counsel e-mail alert | 11/23/05 | Mathew Staver

Posted on 11/25/2005 10:01:45 AM PST by dukeman

Today Boston's Mayor and the Parks Commissioner reversed course under pressure from Liberty Counsel regarding the City's annual Christmas tree. A Christmas tree has been donated by Nova Scotia for the past 34 years to honor Boston for providing help following the 1917 Haifax Explosion. This year the tree was renamed by City officials to the "Holiday Tree." When the Nova Scotia donor learned that the tree was renamed, he was "hopping mad," and stated that he should have "put it in the chipper."

After learning of this incident, Liberty Counsel pressured City officials to reverse course and call the tree a Christmas tree. Last night I appeared on Hannity and Colmes to discuss this assault on Christmas. Today, the Mayor and the Parks Commissioner responded and now concede the tree will be called a Christmas tree.

Liberty Counsel's Friend or Foe Christmas Campaign is designed to educate about the constitutionality of Christmas and to defend against threats to Christmas. When education does not resolve the matter, we will go to court.

On Monday I talked about the Friend or Foe Christmas Campaign on the Fox News Channel on the O'Reilly Factor; yesterday on Hannity and Colmes, and today with John Gibson. Today, Dr. Jerry Falwell also discussed the Friend or Foe Christmas Campaign on the O'Reilly Factor, and on CNN's Anderson Cooper 360 and Paula Zahn Now .

Help spread our Friend or Foe Christmas Campaign by distributing our free legal memo. Churches can run our pre-designed ads in local newspapers and in their bulletins.

Write an email to parks@ci.boston.ma.us to thank the City of Boston for acknowledging Christmas. You can also participate in a poll by a local television station about naming the Christmas tree. At this time, 94% favor calling the tree a Christmas tree.

When we show up, by God's grace, we win. Thank you for your prayers and support. Have a great Thanksgiving.

Next, they will try to ban 'holiday' and call it 'celebration day' or some similar nonsense.

They should just come out, say what they think, and call it a "HUMBUG TREE".

I am so sick of hearing all this liberal BS I could scream.

My other 'sick of hearing' is all the come here's constantly complaining that they want the ethnic life style they had in the old country.

They come here because of freedoms and immediately want to change everything to suit their ethnic life style. If they don't like it here as it is, they need to go back where they came from. We don't want to live the Hispanic, Oriental or Muslim life style, that is why we are still here in the good old USA.

What a bunch of PC NAZIS!

Speaking of which... I'm sitting in the Munich, Germany, airport waiting for my flight back to the states. They have "Merry Christmas" signs everywhere in this GOVERNMENT airport. It's sad to see the semi-socialist state of Germany be more friendly to religion than localities in the states. Liberals certainly hate Christians/Jews (well, th believing types of Christians/Jews anyway).

I don't understand why some fear Christmas so much.

A few specific reasons Liberals hate Christians/Jews:

1)Do not murder
2) Do not commit adultery
3) Honor your mother and father
4) Homosexuality is an abomination (never mind that it kills, on average, 20 years early)
5) Husbands are to love their wives the way Jesus loved the church
6) Do not divorce

The list goes on... and it's full of all kinds of things that liberals want the freedom to do.

Yup. And many of them openly declare that western civilization is corrupt and that they intend on changing us to be like where they came from.

Hear, Hear! I join you in unapologetically and enthusiastically celebrating Christmas, the birth of Jesus Christ the Son of God.

But Donnie Hatt, of Beech Hill,Nova Scotia, says he wouldn't have sent his 36-year-old white spruce to Boston this year if he knew it would be called a "holiday" tree. In fact, he'd rather see it run through the wood chipper in his backyard.

"I think it's a bunch of bullcrap," Hatt said Tuesday. "The States is never happy with the way things are. They always gotta change something.

"Ever since I was born, a tree was put up for Christmas, not for holidays, because if you're gonna do that you might as well put a tree up for Easter."

Have friends that are Jewish. Didn't understand their holidays so I asked them to teach me about them. I have respect for the beliefs of others and expect the same in return. They don't say Happy Holiday to me. They say Merry Christmas because is what I believe in. It is not Happy Holidays.

Quite right! I say Happy Hanukkah to my Jewish friends. Of course Hanukkah celebrates the Maccabees victory over the Greeks who were trying to paganize their culture. Sound familiar?

The local NBC channel performed a poll two days ago, which they have since taken down. Final vote was over 94% wanted it to remaina "Christmas Tree". Somehow no one listens to the people of Mass.

Holiday Tree That is so dumb.

That's what Lowe's is calling them. I guess the PC memo went out. Expect to see more in the future.

Then one wonders why those folks elect the leaders they do...

To deny the Christian aspect of the Christmas tree is also to deny the historical aspect - the evergreen was adopted to replace the pagan symbol that was the oak tree, in order to symbolize the eternity, the 'evergreen' of God.

Today, the Mayor and the Parks Commissioner responded and now concede the tree will be called a Christmas tree.

Seems so silly to try to call it a 'Holiday tree'. After all, what other religion has a decorated tree in its decorations? Jews have their Menorahs, folks who celebrate Kwanzaa have their Unity candles, but no other group except Christians honoring the birth of Christ with their Christmas celebrations use a tree in their decorations, so why call it anything else?
