Schwarzenegger Mulls Clemency for Williams [Tookie]

San Francisco -- Gov. Arnold Schwarzenegger said Friday that he would consider granting clemency to Crips co-founder and convicted murderer Stanley Tookie Williams.

After a private hearing with Williams' lawyers at his Sacramento office, Schwarzenegger said he would meet again on Dec. 8 with the lawyers, Los Angeles County prosecutors and others involved.

As governor, he has the authority to commute a death sentence to life without parole. He is not legally obligated to hold a public or private hearing. Schwarzenegger decides clemency requests on a "case-by-case basis," . . .

I heard an interview with the former warden of Tookie's prison - he said that while on death row Tookie had committed a series assaults on guard and sexual assaults on other men.

Clemency would send the wrong message to the kids who read his children's books... do something nice and it makes up for gunning down a family in cold blood.

If he does grant clemency I wil be very disappointed and Ah-nuld's political career will be over, as any conservative support he has now will disappear.

well, considering the election earlier this month and how conservatives did not come out to support him, perhaps he believes conservative support already has disappeared... so why cater to them? (just a thought)...
