Robberies in Minneapolis are on pace to reach their highest peak since 1997, according to the Police Department's robbery unit. Citywide, robberies are up 21 percent this year from the same time in 2004, police said. According to data released this week, there have been 2,462 robberies this year, compared with 2,038 at the same time last year. Robbery unit commander Lt. Michael Fossum said the number of robberies will probably be near or exceed 3,000 by year's end; the last time they hit that mark was 1997, with 3,326.

Is that statewide, or just a "Da Cities" thing?

Just da Cities, they are pressing for it State wide. Some of the Minneapolis businesses are pressing for it because "hey they screwed me so let us screw everyone." How about this, how about you unscrew "da Cities" instead.

If I'm not mistaken, Duluth had a ban long before Minneapolis. Everyone just drives to Proctor to drink.

I'm sure St. Paul will be following Minneapolis straight to hell, now that Kelly's out and those filthy Highland Park bolshevist creeps are running the show.

Gee wonder how much you would use it if you actually had to pay the real user costs instead of getting another state wide subsidy for a Minneapolis only benefit. Wonder how many of the Light Rail riders could more then affords to pay the price that is being subsided by taking tax money from the working class state wide? Gee wonder how many linkage bus routes we could of bought for a $ 1 billion instead of a rail line that ONLY goes from point a to b and back? But gee the Urbanites and the Professional Pols get to feel real good about themselves. Just don't point out that it does NOTHING for congestion NOTHING for urban renewal and NOTHING for pollution. Too bad it is quite possibly the most inefficient use of Govt resources in State History and nothing but a "prestige" placebo.

But once again, everyone is a "conservatives" about OTHER peoples spending never when the Govt spends ON them.

4) It makes it from the MOA to Downtown faster than I can drive it (assuming I keep the speed limits)..

Partly because all the lights on Hwy 55 are now timed to only allow the parallel traffic to proceed if there's a training coming. I've spent up to 9 minutes at EACH LIGHT waiting with NOBODY moving, for the next train to come by to allow all of us to continue. Hwy 55 is now virtually impassible.

Makes me wonder if they are doing that on purpose to bring truth to your statement.

it's a blue county thing. look at a map of what areas of MN voted DFL (aka Dumb Friggin' Liberal), you'll see population dense areas went DFL. the closer to the tall buildings, the more mental illness.look what crowding does for rats.

Beacuse the number they were using to get ten million is the number of paid riders, they looked at receipts..

which is why they had to sell their rail as a traffic reducer as part of the marketing package. it has actually made traffic worse in some places where you have to wait to cross the tracks. taking 1/2 of 1% of people who previously drove out of their cars on a regular basis adds up to what? you could fit that many people in Al Franken's eyeglass case.not to mention light rail has killed more people than concealed carry in MN.

I'd be curious to see census data on immigrants, illegal or not, and compare the immigration rate to the crime rate. Minnesota used to be such a wonderful state. The people were honest, friendly, compassionate. The problem is they were too compassionate, so they passed some of the most liberal welfare laws in the country. This caused a huge influx of parasites. Also, many churches sponsored Hmong refugees. The Hmong, who were mistreated in their homeland, came in and started gangs and began making ridiculous demands on their benfactors.

I believe in compassion, just not in stupidity. I care about my kids, but that doesn't mean they get a free ride through life. They get an education. After that, they can provide their own ride.

Look at the stops that the train is making: MOA to the airport. Airport to the airport (free ride). Airport to downtown.

This isn't serving primarily the citizens of Mpls/St. Paul, it's serving tourists, business people here for conferences, etc.

If they want to actually serve some Minnesotans, and relieve congestion (if that's possible), have it parallel 94 from St. Cloud, 94 from Woodbury, 35 from Burnsville, and 35 from Lino Lakes. Along 394 to the west would be nice too.

...and get it the heck off of surface streets where it messes up what should be alternative routes.

What if this were true about Buses as well?

Gee wonder how many linkage bus routes we could of bought for a $ 1 billion instead of a rail line that ONLY goes from point a to b and back?

Given A is the MOA (ample space to park) and B is downtown (with little space to park) I guess I think I might still pay the full rate for a ride rather than the 10-20$ an *HOUR* at some places to get covered parking downtown during the day.

Just don't point out that it does NOTHING for congestion NOTHING for urban renewal and NOTHING for pollution.

Really I guess you have not driven out of downtown before and after the rail from a twins game have you? I guess 10 Million (paid) on a single shot line is worse for congestion than fifty buses right?

I am saying this as someone who has seen light rail done very wrong: Minnesota has it right..

And it ONLY cost $1 billion which is what 75% Cost over run. Funny how the same people who scream bloody murder about Defense spending never have a peep to say about the waste in every day Govt spending

Moscow on the Mississippi (MPLS) will find itself in the same shape as that other well known liberal mecca, Detroit. It should only take a few more election cycles.
But remember, we must celebrate the diversity. BARF!

most Hmong here pull their own weight and then some.most of our problems are imported locally. look at raps sheets for repeat offenders some time or ask a veteran MPLS copper. the majority of our criminals come from Gary,Chicago,Milwaukee within the past 5 years.Few career criminals in MN hail from MN originally.

If it is working so great why does it get an annual subsidy FOREVER from the State? We should be able to end that subsidy since it "works for 10,000,000 riders". BS and you Light Rail heads know it.

If you're living there, I'll take your word for it. I grew up there and only get back once or twice a year to visit family, so my view is probably not very complete.

best get your non-resident carry permit.I live north. the only time I go there is when I win tickets to a game or concert there. Xcel Center in St.Paul is much better venue for concerts any way.
