Russians fear nuclear expert will spill secrets

Hardly talked about here, the possible extradition of a former Russian nuclear energy minister to face federal charges in Pittsburgh makes the national news every few days there, observers say. That's because many Russians are convinced the United States is after Yevgeny Adamov for the secrets he harbors, not the laws he allegedly broke.

"The Russians clearly have a very deep anger about this and feel like we're abusing our relationship," said Marshall Goldman, associate director of Harvard University's Davis Center for Russian and Eurasian Studies. "They believe once we get our hands on him, he'll reveal all their state secrets. ... They see this as a return to the Cold War."

Adamov, 66, was visiting his daughter in Bern, Switzerland, in May when he was arrested at the request of the U.S. government, which claims he stole $9 million of U.S. Department of Energy money intended to improve safety at Russian nuclear plants.

Some of that money, prosecutors say, ended up in bank accounts in Pittsburgh, where Adamov owned two businesses with Monroeville resident Mark Kaushansky, 53.

The men are charged with money laundering, tax evasion and conspiracy to defraud the United States. Adamov faces up to 60 years in prison and a $1.75 million fine if convicted. Kaushansky faces up to 180 years in prison and a $5 million fine.

I wonder what the odds are in betting circles on this guy staying alive long enough to make it to trial?

Given how Russia's been selling nuclear reactors and such to any country with cash (and if they are rogue states or underage, they can wait in the car while Russia runs into the store for them), I don't think Russia has any secrets left.

There was a a comedy sketch on NTV awhile back, where a bunch of people are waiting around Sheremetevo arrivals with signs reading: "Komu prodavat' rodinu?" (Who'll pay for me to sell out my nation?)

What kind of secret could know former director institute of nuclear reactors? All secrets knew former minister (in early 1990's) Victor Mikhailov who was Chief designer of Nuclear War-systems. On the contrary, Mr.Adamov was not respectable chief in "Ministry of Nuclear energy and industry" where he was well-known as person has unclear hands and very bad reputation. Talking turkey, Mr.Adamov is thief as many others in Kremlin and Russian government. The problem is he stole money given by Master (US government) for a good purpose - dismantling used nuclear reactors of submarines. Mr.Adamov established a lot of fake firms which ostensibly performed some works and he paid them money.. Monrovil st.Pensilvania is the nest of Russian-American nuclear mafia where you can find out: since Jan.14 of 1993 «Energo Pool, Inc.» (Federal # 98- 1745); since Aug.25 of 1994 «Omeka, Ltd», registration No.002596188.
In 1997 Mr.Adamov has established and registered another «Energo Pool» in offshore zone st.Delaware;
Criminal case of Mr.Adamov is signal to many his "colleague" - thieves: "Be afraid to steal money of Master otherwise all will be throw in jail!"

If he would be deported to Russia, then I suspect that after few days he would be released and banned from foreign journeys.
