Specter of antitrust: Senator says T.O. mistreated

PHILADELPHIA -- Sen. Arlen Specter is accusing the National Football League and the Philadelphia Eagles of treating Terrell Owens unfairly. The Pennsylvania Republican says he might refer the matter to the antitrust subcommittee of the Senate Judiciary Committee, of which he is the chairman. Specter said at a news conference Monday in Harrisburg it was "vindictive and inappropriate" for the league and the Eagles to forbid the all-pro wide receiver from playing and to prevent other teams from talking to him. He said, "It's a restraint of trade for them to do that" and "it might be a violation of antitrust laws." Some other legal experts disagree. Arbitrator Richard Bloch said last week the team's actions were supported by the labor agreement between the league and the NFL Players Association. The Eagles suspended Owens on Nov. 5 for four games without pay for "conduct detrimental to the team." They deactivated him with pay on Sunday after the suspension ended.

This is great!!! That means we must have finally won the War on Terror if Senators are only concerned now with the NFL.

Specter and TO have so much in common. They think the world of themselves and back stab their team mates at every opportunity.

I thought the NFL had an anti-trust exemption.

No, only Major League Baseball has that. You may recall the anti-trust suit that the USFL launched against the NFL. The NFL was found liable, and had to pay the USFL damages amounting to $3.

"vindictive and inappropriate"

Hmm...Arlen, didn't you use those words at the bail hearing for Ira Einhorn, the Unicorn Killer? You know, the guy who stuffed his girlfriend in a trunk, and ran to France after you got him released?

Nice work.

Talk about an abuse of your power. If any SANE Republican Senator is reading this thread, please consider removing Senator Specter from his position of power. PLEASE!

I couldn't agree more. In the process of losing his marbles, he has become our Robert Byrd. A bitter old fart. I don't care why his mind is not functioning properly. I just want him out of the power loop. He is not fit for duty.

TO basically busted the team’s ego-cap with acts of selfishness. He clearly believes he is more special than his teammates and expected to be treated as such.

Yeah, a self-centered star athlete, first time I've ever heard of THAT in professional sports.

The Eagles can do what they want, but they knew what they were getting when they got T.O. Steve Smith attacked his teamate, put him in the hospital and he was suspended for one game. Sticks and stones will break your bones but words will get you suspended for the season.

What Rush said about McNabb was totally wrong and served no purpose. McNabb is a great QB and a better person off the field - a true role model. I personally think Rush was race baiting on this one. However, TO is still an idiot, cancer is cancer no matter how you look at it.

Arlen always likes to stick his nose in the news. Typical Arlen PR tactic.

Sorry, OldFriend, but TO demonized himself. He was a disruption and a thorn in the Eagles months before he said anything about McNabb. The only thing the Eagles did wrong was to wait as long as they did to give him a "time-out".

I thought the NFL had an anti-trust exemption.

Nope, and as such, Congress should keep their freaking noses out of a contract matter that's already gone properly through arbitration.

If MLB were smart, they'd try to get their anti-trust status revoked so they could tell Congress to *** off the next time they want to hold "hearings".

What a D---head. For the money they paid t.o. they should expect loyalty. Congress has a few more important matters to attend to.

"Is "senile" the right word?"

Possibly. however I am getting more of a "Dumbass" vibe from Arlen's T.O. stance.

"Specter said at a news conference Monday in Harrisburg it was "vindictive and inappropriate" for the league and the Eagles to forbid the all-pro wide receiver from playing and to prevent other teams from talking to him."

The only thing that was 'vindictive and inappropriate' in this situation is Terrell Owens' behavior. Specter is meddling in things that are being handled appropriately by the team and the league and are none of his business. All that this will do is to bring T.O. back into the media limelight for another round of stupidity.

Does this not just smack of McCain, MLB, and steroids?
