Meet The New Women Alert: Jewelry For Men (Debbie Schlussel Slams Brad Pitt Girly Men Alert)

Uh-Oh! It's another episode in the continuing crisis of watering masculinity down.

Respected jewelers, like Tiffany & Co., and mass retailers, like Kay Jewelers, are trying to push a new trend--JEWELRY FOR MEN.

Yup, today's Wall Street Journal reports on a Brad Pitt effect. Influenced by girlie-men celebs like Pitt, singer Lenny Kravitz, and actor Orlando Bloom, the Journal claims that, "Once considered a fringe market for rockers, rappers, gay men, and gangsters, men's jewelry is inching toward the mainstream." Say it ain't so.

We're not just talking fancy watches, either. Tiffany's now carries "sporty" men's jewelry, including rings, pendants and bracelets. Bracelets on men? Eeuw. Nothing "sporty" about that.

The WSJ article is entitled "Men Say Bling it on." No, real men don't WEAR bling--or bracelets. Oh, and by the way, I guess the WSJ didn't get the memo: the word "bling" is out. Jewelry for men should be, too!

Jewelry for men? How effeminate! No self-respecting man should be seen wearing a bracelet unless he's a) metrosexual, b) a girlyman or c) a new woman getting in touch with his inner chick. Either one of those or he's gay. The only jewelry a man should wear is a rugged watch. Anything more is overaccessorizing. Men are NOT women and there's a limit to fashion.

I have a wedding ring, a gold cross (small) bought by my wife, and a watch.

At time I wear a college ring, but that is annoying.

Aggies only wear the ring so they can remember where they went to college.

(Yes, I am an Aggie.)

To have a signet ring is an old tradition. Why, JPII used to wear one.

Mr. T obtained a special dispensation from the Pope to wear jewelery. It looks silly on all other guys.

I agree - Lenny Kravitz is no girly man.

But men's jewelry is soooooooo tacky.

To repeat a posting from a thread on moisturizing:

No. The don't. (wear jewelry)

The only jewelry I wear is a good looking chick hung around my neck.

LOL! What about a chain necklace? I sort of like that on a guy as long as it is a manly type of chain on a manly type of guy. I like men's rings too. Bracelets? Too much for me. But a man's ring is nice -- again, as long as it is manly. No pinky rings or girly looks.

I'm a female who loves jewelry, so I don't mind it on my guy as long as it's not girly.

The day before I began dating my wife I bought an ahnk. I've determined that it's a good luck charm, so I've worn it (under my shirt, I don't advertise that I'm a sentimental moron) ever since. It's been 11 years.

I also wear a watch, but that serves a purpose so it doesn't count as jewelery.

Oh, and I used to wear my wedding ring, until I got to chunky for it.

Well, the man below wore several bracelets throughout his life.

Where on your list does he fall?

Me too. When I really "dress", I'll include my Baretta 92FS.
