Hezbollah had planned to unleash a massive barrage of rocket attacks on civilian targets in the north, Military Intelligence chief Major General Aharon Ze'evi (Farkash) revealed Wednesday.
Ze'evi told the Knesset Foreign Affairs and Defense Committee that last week's assault by Hezbollah on the northern village of Ghajar and on Israel Defense Forces posts along the northern border had been a way of encouraging an IDF reaction, in response to which the Lebanon-based organization had planned to launch rockets, including long-range Katyushas, at Israel's northern border last week.
Ze'evi also gave a detailed description of the Ghajar attack, during which some 20 Hezbollah activists infiltrated the Israeli side of the village. At the same time, he said, some 30 militants attacked the Gladiola military outpost and Hezbollah members opened fire on some 25 IDF posts between Rosh Hanikra and Har Dov, firing some 330 mortar shells.
Ze'evi said Hezbollah had plans to damage the IDF and kidnap soldiers, noting, however, that the military had advance intelligence information on the planned attack and was therefore able to prepare for it.
He said Hezbollah leaders expected the IDF to launch an extensive reprisal and were prepared for major activity, including attacks on civilian targets.
Ze'evi also said he expected Hezbollah to continue attempting to kidnap soldiers or Israelis abroad and send drones into Israeli air space.
The Hezbollah attack was carried out with Iranian knowledge and Syrian support,

FYI
Easy solution!
Have Israel purchase these, or better yet, LOAN them on a "lend-lease" type plan...
Have the Phalanx systems overlapping the areas that the Hamas-holes launch from, with a mobile fire control system. If need be, they can be mounted on mobile platforms.
Once launch is detected, the Phalanx opens up on the missiles, blowing them up so the drop on the PaleSimian side of the border, so THEY take the casualties!
Let the UN scream, let the Islamazis cry foul...who F'n cares. As long as they never leave PaleSimian territory, Israel would be safer!
If these "Hezbollah warriors" weren't hiding amongst their women and children the only news they would be making would be in the obituaries.
Phalanx, huh? Pretty cool machines, kind of like R2D2 with an attitude. I never actually saw one of those until I'd been out of the Navy for a decade, but they were always on my advancement exams.
Yeah, and if coalition forces withdraw from Iraq, terrorists won't do the same?
Haven't they fielded (I know they developed one) a laser that can shoot down multiple Katyushas?
I fail to see the problem as long as it's aimed at the Islamazi side only. If there's going to be collateral damage from Katyushas or Qassams...let it fall on them! Also, consider that 1.25 miles a no-mans land kill zone that would be VERY obvious to the PaleSimian side....they were the reason it happened, they bear the consequences
And a barrage would be a problem for the unit.
I suggest multiple overlap units with a secondary command/radar vehicle operating to it's rear...kinda like an AWACS. If there were 3 or 4 units per sector, mobile to respond to "Intel" in certain areas, all the better!
The islamokazis would march a couple busloads into a firing lane of a Phalanx and then rain down Qassams between the Phalanx and the launchers / children so they'd be mowed down to get more world "opinion" and then declare them "martyrs".
And this is bad....why? Again....I do not differentiate between PaleSimian kids and Terrorists, since they don't either! A kid or a mom with an explosives belt is just the same as what the VC did in 'Nam with the "shoeshine" boxes and moms with grenades attached to their kids!
A blatant "kill zone" of security would do WONDERS for a peacful border
If this sounds cold...sorry...it's World War III/IV, and the enemy is setting the playing field. Hell, Israel would be accused of killing them no matter what they did! In my version, they don't climb back into the cofffins during the press show funeral!
