BALTIMORE, Nov. 30 -- President Bush choppered into town Wednesday on behalf of Lt. Gov. Michael S. Steele, leaving behind a fatter campaign treasury for Steele's U.S. Senate bid and demands from Democrats that Steele spell out where he stands on the president's agenda. Bush made it a quick stop on his third fundraising event in as many days for 2006 Republican congressional candidates. He posed for photos with supporters who paid $5,000 and gave an approximately 15-minute pep talk to those and others who paid $125 for a "stand-up" lunch of stadium fare at M&T Bank Stadium, where the Baltimore Ravens play. The total take should be about $500,000, said campaign spokesman Leonardo Alcivar, who quickly added that it was inappropriate to compare it with fundraising events Bush has done for candidates in the region that raised much more money. For instance, Bush pulled in more than $2 million for Virginia gubernatorial candidate Jerry Kilgore at a McLean event this past summer, and Robert L. Ehrlich Jr. raised about $1.8 million at an event with the president during Ehrlich's successful 2002 gubernatorial campaign. But Alcivar noted that those events came in the thick of an election -- Steele's is more than 11 months away -- and with different fundraising rules from those that govern a federal campaign. "We're happy with both the dollar amount of contributions we received and the number of attendees," said Alcivar, who added that about 800 tickets were sold, although far fewer people were at the lunchtime event.

Steele is the democrats biggest nightmare. The only black senator in the country and he's a republican. Obamas mother is white, but the media somehow forgets that.

Jeez, if the President were as unpopular as the MSM keeps saying he is, you'd think Steele wouldn't have raised ten bucks at this event. I doubt Kweasy Mofome can raise a half-million bucks at an event for his campaign.
Remember how the media went nuts and wet themselves over Osama Bama (Kennedy)? Hmmm, not a peep over this black man running. Obama was the "dream" candidate. Steele is just a typical race traitor to the liberal media. That's why he's being shunned.
Republicans always have money to throw around, you handwringing newbie. Give all good conservative candidates as much support as possible. I don't care if the president raised $50. Give Lt. Gov. Steele and all other conservatives the support they deserve, no matter what the odds.
I checked with the original headline and it is there. The headline is written so it sounds like Bush stole 500,000. They capitalized the everything but the "to" so your eyes read....

Oh point well taken, we have to support all good Conservative candidates, and Steele certainly has a lot going for him.
But for me, the single most important thing is HOLDING THE REPUBLICAN MAJORITY. The Republican committee's won't have unlimited money to give. If we throw money at every single race out there, we lose. If we can spend it as strategically as possible, we can and will win, and will hold the Senate. I thought this article was a good jumping off point for a discussion about if Steele, running in a very Democratic state, should get some of our finite resources.
And if Bush had NOT gone to boster the Steele
campaign fund, the Dems' headlines would have
accused him of racial prejudice and preferring
to fight for Mexican Illegals! We all know
how the game is played.
I vote for better spent elsewhere.
Taking into consideration the waste and corruption, funded by our tax dollars, by our "elected representatives," I have no intention of donating any $$$ to any candidate or party.
The definition of insanity is doing the same things and expecting different results................
I guess the WAPO headline writer can't resist being 'cute'.
Steele is a great candidate who will get national support. If the rats are dumb enough to think they can win with queeze no se fume, Steele will roll over him. He will get Catholic support. He will get pro life support. He will get 25% of the Black vote and Black Republican support. He will shine when put up against anybody the rats run.
FYI. I'm already signed up to be a volunteer for Steele's campaign. :-)
it is just like the photgraphers that place the angle that they shoot their picture so it says something different than it does. The dinosaur media claim they have standards that they are controled by but they do this crap all the time. They think that we never notice....
Apparently the President and Karl Rove - who do know a thing or two about winning political campaigns - think Mr. Steele is worthy of our support.
Steele is magnificent and totally who I would love to see run for president- i saw him at the RNC last year and he is dynamic.

How true. The 'crowd' picture of Sheehan comes to mind. A wide-angle shot revealed more photographers than protesters.
Individual donors have a greater impact than anything the RNC does and it's the generosity of those individuals that most determines the success of a candidate. After all, we're the ones that vote.
Clearly Bush is strongly supporting him. Whether that will help or hurt in a state like Maryland remains to be seen. I just find $500,000 for a Presidential fundraiser to be a frighteningly low $$ haul and I hope it isn't a sign of trouble for Steele.
