I have never heard anyone use the term "AIDS Industry", but that is just what I think happened. Instead of quarantining the early cases and controlling the spread, we got a very expensive industry that feeds off 5 million sick people. Meanwhile all the CDC did was watch.

What I mean by AIDS Industry is the history & demographics of AIDS has been propagandized;
it was and remains a "chosen" disease, for something like 98% of the people who get it (chosen because it is easily preventable, except for those born with it, or who get it via blood transfusion);
an extremely high percentage was and remains in the male gay community and thus it is not a major "threat" to heterosexuals (heterosexuals remain 92% to 97% of the population in the US-- no matter how Kinsey misreported a higher ratio of gays);
the US gay community has vigorously pushed the idea that it is NOT primarily a "gay disease", although it plainly is.
By all these means, AIDS gets funded at ridiculously high levels.
I would trust the CDC's statistics much more than any numbers coming out of those pushing an agenda.
It would be interesting to see just how many HIV/AIDS cases we've had reported in the US since the scare began, and see also, how many are gay- if that's even possible, today.
Lastly, judged as a threat to sheer numbers of Americans, I would imagine that AIDS ranks pretty low on the scale, and yet, The Industry gets a huge amount of tax funding.

I've been looking for hard statistics all day, it seems, and they are very- suspiciously- difficult to find. I finally emailed the National Center for Health Statistics
for their numbers on AIDS/HIV deaths and #'s of new cases reported per year, going back to 1981. We'll see ...
Just to get a taste of what I'm saying, I did see bits of stats, from them. And here they are:
For 2002, 14,095 total deaths from AIDS/HIV in US (actually, it just said, "AIDS"), which works out to around a whopping less than 1% of our population.
And for 2003, there were 44,232 new cases reported (via the medical community)- "new cases" not deaths, as we're treating the disease differently, now. Again, a very small percentage of the US population (less than 1 %).
Where did you get that figure of 5 million sick people-
from the "advocates" or from the researchers?
I expect, like most folks, Shep is a good-ole-boy....perhaps a little too liberal for FR, but he's OK.
The Fox & Friends Weekend crew was discussing this topic this morning, and the only one on the side of the Pentagon this morning was Kiran Chetry. She said that she really didn't have a problem with the US military doing this, and that they have to do something to counter the terrorist message that is getting out there. Reporter Dana Lewis and Colonel Bill Cowan also expressed their agreement with Kiran on this. Nice to see that Kiran hasn't completely gone over to the dark side! Both Alisyn and Julian seemed very disturbed by this story, and kept stressing how "ethics" had to be followed no matter what. What they don't understand is that we are at war with monsters, and you can't use the same journalistic rules with evil savages like that. Heck, this kind of stuff has gone on in other wars as well, but the US media wasn't always sticking its nose into everything like they do now.

Yeah...ethics doesn't go a long way in staving off bullets and bombs, does it??
Besides, I don't see how getting the "truth" to the people should be considered unethical...
After watching the special on Iraq on Fox News tonight, I am even more convinced that it is necessary for the Iraqi people hear the "good news"...
They have TV shows that for the first time ever..are showing Iraqis parts of Iraq that they have NEVER SEEN...

from the "advocates" or from the researchers?" I don't remember. I have had it in my mind for several years. Here's another stat for you. the AIDS cocktail costs $1800/mo. We have 500,000 Haitian refugees here in Florida and a lot of them come to get the drug treatment. We have a related drug resistant TB epidemic. (12000 cases a year).
The CDC says they are watching.
I was watching the Iraq special on Fox tonight as well, and it is so good to actually see folks who are smiling and looking forward to the future. There are some tough times ahead for Iraq, but I don't think it's anything that they can't work through. Fox almost made up for their slanted piece on Global Warming with this special. Fox isn't perfect, but it's the best we're going to get as far as cable news is concerned.
I used to think he acted like a guy with a inferiority complex. Then I realized it's not a complex at all. He is inferior...
I remember that very well and haven't been interested in seeing/hearing Shep since. Who need his opinions?
