He said the main challenge today was to find the right formula to strike a balance between meeting people's need and protecting the environment. Yes. Let's trust the U.N. to determine population control...and our food needs too. How about some soylent green?

I understand that world population is supposed to cap out at around 10 billion, given the trend of declining birthrates in industrialized and post-industrial countries, and the worldwide trend towards industrial and post-industrial economies.

"Soylent Green is PEOPLE!"
Y'know, I always thought it would've been a bit more meaty rather than like some hard crunchy wafer. Any way you slice it, it sure gave new meaning to snapping into a Slim Jim.

World population to grow by 800 million in next decade Doubtful. 40 million abortions per year times 10 years = 400 million non-populace. This is more of that Earlich (did I get the name right?) projection and non-scientific nonesense that these 60's hippies always do .... > shrug

More "too many souls" stuff.
It seems that non-Christians have "gone forth to multiply" much faster. Birth control might be a good policy.
Souls do not take up much space on the head of a pin, but brother, do they ever clog up our freeways and the internet!

Hey, don't blame me; I had two kids, and got snipped 24 years ago.
Series, there was a guy named Malthus who discussed world population issues.
