When did 'Happy Holidays' become anti-Christian?
Rochester Democrat and Chronicle | December 4, 2005 | Mark Hare

Posted on 12/04/2005 5:24:15 AM PST by Behind Liberal Lines

The columnist argues that the "dreadful" Iraq war "diminishes the joy of the Christmas season," and that "talk-radio land and the Internet blogosphere," should stop complaining that "Have a nice holiday," or "Happy holidays" or "Enjoy your holiday" are "part of a campaign to take God and Jesus out of Christmas."

He argues that Christians shouldn't be offended and speculates that non-Christians aren't as easily offended if you wish them "Merry Christmas."

However, he also claims that saying "Happy Holidays" is a matter of politeness to non-Christians and as "a courtesy."

Finally, the author insinuates that Christians are responsible for the commercialization of Christmas and concludes it is "far too soon" to be wishing people "Merry Christmas" anyway.

"Happy Holidays" became un-Christian when it became offensive to the politically correct to use "Merry Christmas" and "Happy Holidays" interchangeably.

The word "holiday" actually comes from "Holy-Day" which of course implies a religious root.

Bizarre. I suppose this is a letter to the editor?

It says nothing but "the columnist said this" and "the author said that".

Exactly! As soon as Happy Holidays was INTENTIONALLY imposed in order to avoid saying Merry Christmas then Happy Holidays is being employed in an anti-Christian effort.

Now you've done it.

Since you told them that, they'll gear up and have us all saying "Happy Days Off"!

It's similar to how the homosexual perverts stole the meaning of gay. Politically correctness has to stop - at its' core is pure evil!!!

The store owners and I have an agreement: They don't
celebrate 'Christmas' and I don't shop in their store.

The D&C is a leftist rag.
I cancelled my subscription after the Monroe County Executive elections. D&C reported that the suburban voters were not smart enough to elect the candidate endorsed by the paper.

Yes, just as Halloween, Groundhog day, and Martin Luther King Jr's days are all "holi-days"

It is offensive to call Christmas "Holiday" just as it is offensive to say "X-mas" and make the day all about Reindeer, Santa, and sleighs. It is offensive to go to a store on Resurrection Sunday and find nothing but Bunnies, chicks, and eggs.

It has become offensive because Christians are seeing a systematic elimenation of our Savior from the public square and his name is becoming a dirty word that nobody is allowed to say.

As a Christian, I have zero issues with saying "Happy Hanukkah" or "Happy Kwanza" or the such. My Jewish friends have no problems with wishing me a Merry Christmas. So, who exactly is offended by the word "Christ-mas?"

The same people who want to get In God We Trust off of our currency and One nation under God out of our pledge.

In short, this is all a part of a trend and Christians are sick and tired of the assault on our religion. It is Christmas season. They are Christmas gifts. It is a Christmas tree. And the birth of Jesus Christ of Nazareth is what makes the day HOLY.

If America can't deal with giving one day to the Lord God, then she's in sorry shape indeed.

He argues that Christians shouldn't be offended...

And why not?

Retailers depend on the "Christmas" holiday for a good portion of their yearly profits, not Hanukkah, Eid or that made up holiday Kwanzaa.

If Christians are going to be the group that retailers profit from then they deserve more than a politically correct salutation.

I've been hearing and using the term "Happy Holidays" for years, believing it to mean Christmas and New Years. This is the first year that I have seen it construed in a different manner. Personally, I'm not offended, because I don't think most of those who use the term mean any offense.

I'm certainly not offended by "Happy Holidays" but I always answer or greet with "Merry Christmas".

Yes, exactly. Happy Holidays became anti Christian by definition when it became politically correct. Because the concept of political correctness is itself offensive by definition.

what is happening is the people are getting tired of all the attacks on Christianity, the small, sometimes not even noticed battles won by the aclu criminals are building into an almost irreversible situation, and alot of people see and feel it

tolerance has become a suicide pill

It's not about what you use so much as being told what to use.
