Tom Brady has led the Patriots to three Super Bowl titles in the past four seasons. SI.com's Peter King says that's only part of the reason why Brady is SI's 2005 Sportsman of the Year.

Several Good Articles here about New England Patriots quarterback Tom Brady. Everyone knows about the Super Bowl victories (3 in 4 years), undefeated in post-season (9-0), and undefeated in overtime games, but did you know he took less money than pretty boy Peyton, which he easily could have held out for? When asked about it, he said something to the effect that "I don't need to be the highest paid player, as long as my team can be competitive every year."

The best statement of his leadership and character are those Master Card commercials with his offensive line: he could have made millions in endorsements on his own, but insisted his teammates be in the ads with him. Mastercard accomodated him, and wrote the commercials so the linemen had speaking parts, plus some extra income on the side.

This year the Pats lost both offensive and defensive coordinators, 4 of there 5 starting offensive linemen, star runner Corey Dillon out 1/2 the season, middle linebacker Tedy Bruschi suffered a stroke 2 weeks after the Super Bowl and just came back, Ted Johnson retired, All Pro Richard Seymour has been out most of the season, Safety Rodney Harrison is out for the year with a broken bone, and the secondary is made up of has-beens. Still, Brady and the Pats can clinch a division title next week in Buffalo, and will have 3 weeks to rest up for the playoffs. Brady has been the anchor and glue to keep things together. It is a pleasure watching him at his craft. The may not win it all this year again; I just wouldn't want to play them in the post-season.

Hard to argue with that selection. Brady is without a doubt the best quarterback in the NFL today and the most successful athlete in all of sports.

"pretty boy Peyton"

Do I sense some sour grapes?

I mean, Manning isn't all that pretty, compared to many of the coiffed princes in the NFL. He's just really good at throwing footballs. :)

Isn't being on the cover of SI supposed to be a jinx?

(Not that I'm superstitious or anything, but that's what I heard!)

I like Tom, but that photo makes him look a little...ah...stoopid. At least it's not metrosexual-looking, like his cover/photos for GQ were a few months ago.

Brady is a class act in a league full of little whiney losers (can anyone say T.O?)

Another win for U of MI alumni which is needed since the Wolverines are headed to the Toilet Bowl in college ball and their hockey team just started on the same downward spiral as the football team (losing three straight).

The basketball team is still undefeated at the moment. So maybe there is a ray of hope for them.

Not at all. Peyton is a great quarterback, especially if you're a fantasy football geek. I just look at Peyton's whining face every time he blows a big game, especially when Bill Belichick plays with his head.

That being said, Peyton has been terrific this year, and is a much better manager of games than he has been in the past. The Colts are definitely the team to beat, especially with a better than average defense they finally have. They should win it all. Still....

Sorry if that sounded meaner than it was meant to be. :)

Brady earned it.

Nahhhh. That happened when Rodney Harrison went out this year. Defense wins championships and they will likely meet the Colts in the post season. They needed him to get past the Colts. Ain't gonna happen this year and SI had nothing to do with it.

Prototype Michigan QB, not flashy, very smart, and seldom turns the ball over. In other words, the consummate team player.

Lets see how he does this year when the Pats have to go to Indianapolis in the playoffs.
