The Vatican doesn't disapprove of condom use for homosexual activity. It condemns the activity itself. And the Vatican's stance against sexual activity outside marriage didn't cause the spread of AIDS. The reckless practice of plugging each other's poopers did and does.

Just about the only place in Africa that has been able to control the AIDS epidemic is Uganda -- and their program highlights abstinence (supported by religious belief) as the first line of defense against AIDS. Uganda is about 30 percent Catholic.

Like I said, the guy's an idiot. Plus, he's an anti-Catholic who's just looking around for a stick to beat the Church with, never mind the facts.

Condoms are not needed if one simply abstains from intercourse before marriage and is monogamous during marriage. The Church proclaims the only 100% foolproof way of avoiding HIV (barring, of course, IV drug use or accidental needle-sticks by health care workers). This person simply doesn't like that this method requires that one keeps one's pants zipped.

If all the good Catholics are spreading AIDS because of not being "permitted" to use latex, and that is the cause of the pandemic, then..

1. Wouldn't that mean mean that those who are spreading the disease are having a lot of extra marital sex (and most likely of a deviant sort aka sodomy).

2. Last time I checked, fornication was against the "Big 10", so those spreading the disease in a sexual manner are not acting like good Christians or good Roman Catholics.

So therefore there must be some sort of condom worshiping cult out there. To blame AIDS on things like abstinence is a bit irrational to say the least.

The intellectual dishonesty of his argument is as breathtaking as it is obvious. He blames the spread of AIDS on the Vatican's condemnation of condom use. If that linkage were true, it would require, among other things, that millions upon millions of people were heeding the Vatican and as a result were not using condoms during sexual activity with multiple partners outside of marriage. However, if those same millions upon millions of people are heeding the Vatican, then they must also be abstaining from sexual activity outside of marriage, and would therefore be abstaining from sexual activity with multiple partners, thus they would not be spreading HIV/AIDS.

So, for this "scientist" to be speaking truthfully, millions upon millions of people must be simultaneously heeding the Vatican and spreading AIDS, while also heeding the Vatican and preventing the spread of AIDS. What a fool, who can't even grasp the internal contradictions in his flawed 'argument' - there's not even a plausible veneer of science behind his remarks, rather, they are revealed as anti-Catholic bigotry, pure and simple...

South Africa has a serious AIDS problem .... perhaps the worst in the world. It is seven percent Catholic. It looks like Lord May needs to rework some of his mathematical equations.
