If you have to pray towards Mecca 5 times each day, then you spend all day looking at the clock and thinking about what you will pray about. Being a Muslim leaves you no time to think about topics outside the religion or to come up with new ideas. And even if you did come up with a new idea, it would be condemned as non-islamic.

So Muslims remain poor because they have no time to be any other way.

Most of the Muslims I know go all-out for education. In one large family every one of them has a college degree and many are professionals. In fact, most of the community is like that.

However, they are from Iran, which is more Persian than Arab culture. So maybe the lack of education is not so much a Muslim thing as an Arab thing.

Muslims underachieve for the same reason as all other underachievers: Low self-esteem.
Sure, we can say they are stupid or backward or 'stuck in the 8th century,' but all of those things can be changed by anyone who truly believes in his own abilities. Muslims have spent the past few centuries being brainwashed into believing they are superior to everyone else because they live simply, without most of the basic things that make life pleasant here.
Now they look across the ocean and see people living better, more comfortable lives while breaking all the rules they've been taught. So their teachers tell them all that is the work of the devil and their task is to defeat that devil and one way is to wear this belt of C-4 and batteries.
For them to question the reason for the explosive belt would lead them to question all the other things they've been taught and that would open up a whole new can of worms that their brainwashing doesn't allow for.
They are fanatics and, just as gun-control fanatics cannot be reasoned with, they can't see anything except from their own point of view. While it is not politically correct to say so, in the end, we will either have to kill them or convert to Islam.

The culture you're born into has more to do with what religion you'll be than anything else. The amount of indoctrination/brainwashing/religious education you get through childhood increases the likelihood you will remain with that religion. And Islam does a whole lot of that, more than any Christian sect I can think of.

The underachievement of Muslims should come as no surprise to those of us who understand the true nature of Islam. Everything a Muslim needs to know is in the Koran, Hadith or Sunnah. Muslims are not encouraged to seek knowledge and better themselves. Muslims are against progress, modernity and science. Those that control Islam do not want to see Muslims educated as an educated Muslim will apply commonsense and logic to the Koran and see it for what its is, a collection of distorted Bible and Torah stories and in print the mind of a 7th century Bedouin bandit leader.

I submit that it is physical:

1) Turbans restrict blood circulation in the head/cranial region.

2) Brain damage from all the rocking back and forth when they are learning lessons and studying Koran.

3) Lack of chairs. They have to sit and bend over to write which causes what blood is there to stagnate;

4) Ululation. Exposure to the sound causes sonic damage to ears, impeding ability to listen and learn.

Add to this the dictatorial nature of gov't/religion, general societal poverty, and a class system, and you have the makings of underachievers.

One of their biggest problems is they believe that borrowing money is a sin. Therefore it's hard for them to build businesses, or acquire land and property.

They can. There are plenty of banks loaning money to Muslims. They get around the prohibition using semantics and technicalities. They can use the same three-way contract that Christians used to use to get around their prohibition on interest, or, for example, a bank can do a mortgage by buying a house for a price and selling it to the person for more, allowing him to pay them back in installments, the interest built into the resale price.

Underachievement by Muslims was not always the case claim Muslims and point to a glorious and illustrious time when the Arab Muslim empire was the most advanced and enlightened in the world.
