Worrisome signs for incumbents and particularly for Republicans were sprinkled throughout a statewide annual opinion poll released Wednesday by St. Cloud State University...
Close association with Bush might not be too helpful. Bush finished dead last among elected officials and candidates on a "feeling thermometer" and those rating his job performance "excellent" or "pretty good" dropped to 33 percent.
On the poll's distinctive thermometer reading, a perennial feature, respondents are asked to think about a thermometer and gauge their "feelings" about elected officials or candidates by citing a temperature between 0 and 100 degrees, with 100 being most positive...

Here's a poll that discusses the warmth voters feel toward a certain incumbent politician.
I find it a little alarming that Minnesota Republicans do so poorly in this poll.
Opinions or comments anyone?

I'd like to see the demographic data about the sample for the poll - it's likely a majority of libs & moderates in the less informed, unwashed masses of the general population vs. likely voters & a fairly constructed sampling among ideology/
This is a joke, right?
Unfortunately it's not.
Unfortunately, this is not a Minnesota Poll, which is notorious for slanted results. However, I don't put a lot of faith in St. Cloud State. I don't recall anyone pushing them as a great barometer of political opinion.
That said, this got great play on the news up north. Not surprising, since it said what the media wants it to say.
For William's benefit, I think we are a state split right down the middle, which is borne out by our Republican House, Rat Senate and split U.S. Senators. The only statewide Rat officeholder is still Mike Hatch, the attorney general, and the Dems haven't elected a governor in nearly twenty years.
There's plenty of hope and plenty to fight for. But we have to work harder than the opposition.
I agree on your sentiment regarding fighting for what we believe in. I do believe there are some excellent conservative candidates here who can make a difference if we get out and work for them. I wish John Kline had decided to run for Senate, though.
Regarding your main point, I don't know enough to make a value judgment about another Freeper. I speak only for myself. Naturally, though, we all need to pull - hard - if we are going to stop the Democrats. I'm willing to do my bit.
I looked at Rowley's website. This was a significant mistake on my part. Typical liberal pablum. If she is a totally different person, it might help.
LOL! I believe it is mandatory.
The mindlessness I see in certain parts of the state is really breathtaking. As in, it sucks the air right out of you sometimes. You fight it because if you don't, it swallows you whole.
I don't find polls like these helpful with regard to our message. There's a core group of people around which to build, but to me this seems like lefty wishful thinking.
I can't disagree with a word you write so I won't even try.
Your comment regarding local/national connections is spot on, and this is the thing that bothered me the most about this poll, to be frank. I see no reason to tie the two together.
Bill-
I work hard in every election I believe in. I don't see myself as a pessismist at all.
I put this poll out for commentary only. Other than a comment that the numbers alarmed me, I said nothing else that could be interpreted as negative.
I think that you really have no idea what you're saying.
Remember the star trek movie, "The Rath of Kahn?" Perhaps they have perfected an insect such as that :)
I really think that the republicans and democrats vastly underestimated the anger created when the shut down the state over their budget impasse. I didn't care but I know people who have stated that they will not support anyone up for reelection. How that will effect the senate race for dayton's seat? we'll just have to wait and find out.
I think that the party to be hardest hit is going to be the repubs tho. Which is really to bad cause the young people stating they will not vote to reelect any incumbant really don't know what it's going to be like if the dems get control of all three state branches. sigh. ( I really hope I'm wrong)
