If Musharraf falls, mullahs will take over: Ex-FBI consultant

The United States does not want to remove Pakistan President Pervez Musharraf from power as Washington fears that the South Asian country would fall into the hands of extremists, according to a former consultant to the US Federal Bureau of Investigation.

"If Musharraf falls, mullahs will take over," the ex-FBI consultant, Paul L Williams, said at a seminar in New York, adding, "However, he will be gone by next year."

The half-day seminar was organised by Indian American Intellectuals Forum headed by Hindu leader Narain Kataria.

According to Dr Williams, Muslim extremism presented a huge threat to humanity.

"The threat posed by radical Islam far exceeds the Third Reich," he said in a half-hour lecture.

He pointed out that for decades, America had been under the impression that terrorism was something that occurred overseas as two oceans separated them from the rest of the world and two friendly countries shielded them on either side.

Williams, who has written on subjects like terrorism, observed that there were about 5,000 al Qaeda operatives in American mosques plotting another September 11, 2001-style attack. His latest book focusses on al Qaeda.

"A nuclear attack on the United States is imminent," he said, citing the statements of President Bush and Vice-President Dick Cheney during the presidential election campaign last year.

Answering a question, Williams said, "Muslim nations are paying money to individuals who can influence decisions in their favour.

He also supported the findings of the Volcker Committee.

This is one reason why NATO has forces in Afghanistan, and they're not leaving any time soon.

I'm not a "fan" per say of Musharraf, but he's a whole hell of a lot better than what's going to take over that country.  Unfortunately, it's just a (short) matter of time before they off him and we do have mullahs running the place.  If you think Iran is a problem now, wait six months until Moosh is taking a dirtnap and you've got the mullahs all nuked up with probably the most anti-American country on earth behind them.

I know India's gotta be concerned about this too.

Why am I thinking the Gatling gun will make a comeback?

It is inevitable, IMHO, that Musharraf is ousted or assassinated.

When that happens, we best be ready to crush the militant islamists resident there.

Of all the terrorism things in the world people worry about - Iran, more bombings in the US, more London bombings, etc. - this is the one thing that worries me. I think one of these times they're going to get lucky and succeed in offing him and get their hands on some nukes.

LOL!  Thank you.  Every now and again, I get serious and opine about something, but even then, it probably shouldn't be taken all that seriously/seriesly.

We're screwed either way, because Musharraf is a backstabber who feigns friendship with the US all the while continuing his evil deeds of proliferation and anti Western plotting with the Red generals of the PLA.

By the way, the only thing we need to worry about is if Gary Barnett takes over in Pakistan.

The only perverted consolation in a scenario of the Mullahs taking over is that they will dial-in their own annihilation by going nuclear on New Delhi.

Although it would pretty much suck for the rest of the world, too, if that happens.

Musharraf is a military leader, which means there are no doubt generals under his command who are only too happy to take power once he is gone. And those generals control tanks and fighter-bombers, not just radicals with AK-47s.

Mullahs having power on the "street" doesn't necessarily translate into having actual governmental power once Musharraf is gone.

I hope to high heaven we know where his nukes are.

Speculation, of course, but I wouldn't be surprised if there was a quiet deal for some measure of U.S. oversight of them in exchange for not demanding their designer's arrest or handover.
