NY legislators in general are the most protected incumbents in the country, and that is saying something. People talk about Lousiana being very corrupt (which it is), but in NY they have basically engineered life peerships for the entire legislature.

So he can say whatever he wants and will not suffer in the least.

WTF? Who is Shel Silver?

One of the biggest reasons Upstate needs its own state.

This is the guy O'Reilly flames for blocking a more severe punishment for child molesters in N.Y. Silver is arguably one of the worst state legislators in the United States.

And furthermore , as a taxpayer, I fail to see the need for cops or fireman from all over the state to attend the funeral of someone they don't know--all on the taxpayer dime.

Agreed. These 'circus' funerals are nothing but a way to sell the police to the taxpayers as a sort of American Nobility. Commercial fishermen die on the job about twelve times as often as cops do.

Who is Shel Silver?

Assembly Leader Sheldon Silver actually runs the State of New York. Ya think its the Governor ?? Nope. Ya think its the State Senate and Assembly combined ?? Ut-uhh. ONE man is actually in charge of the entire states business ... Shelly Silver. If he says it doesn't get done, then it simply doesn't get done. Silver wields tremendous power in NYS, and is the King of NO(!!!)

/sarcasm, but sadly true

No mention of party affiliation, so he must be a Dem.

Your stat is close to being correct if you mean deaths per 100,000. But not nearly as many fisherman are murdered while hauling in a crab pot.

As far as the gobbledy gook about American Nobility, I can always count a guy who has had trouble with the police showing up on a thread about the police and trying to crap on said same.

I see I fat fingered the keyboard. Thanks for pointing it out. 150 avg per year. Pretty steady over time. Sorry for the bad info. Again that's just the ones who were murdered or run over by a drunk. Doesn't count training accidents, suicides, getting accidently squished on the side of the road. Still a big number.

Dead is dead.

Yeah, and guys who've never had a lick of trouble with the police can always count on some cop groupie playing the badge card.

Took your tip.

#'s nowhere near your earlier post

2005 - 140 +/- deaths

an overwhelming majority where traffic (preventable ?) related.

the # of "gun shot" deaths seemed equal to the # of "heart attacks"

I don't live for you approval or esteem. If you mean groupie as in my brother and sister officers then yeah I'll be a groupie.

So if you've never had problems w/ the law then you must be a hard hearted son of (**& to come on a thread about a slimy shyster, turned politician, who defends child molesters and other bottom feeding scum, and all you can find to complain about it the police.

Like a said, I can always count on a thread that has anything to do w/ the police bringing out the disgruntled and those w/ pasts to hide.

Being an ex-cop of 32 years, I wouldn't want this scumbag at my funeral anyway.
His type always hate cops till they need one, then they are the first to call for help.
I'm sure that the family of this fallen officer didn't need his type there either.

Look up a couple of posts for my correction. 150 is the avg every year over the last couple of decades. The traffic stat is fooling you. Getting run over on a traffic stop by drunk counts as they are committing a crime.

Look at it this way, at least he's honest & he's not like the media-whore photo op types the rest of them are!

What?!?!? This POS was caught (about a year ago) accepting a junket to Las vegas where he was wined and dined at minimal cost to him. Meanwhile these same casinos are attempting to gain a foothold in New York if it ever allows gaming.

In essence he was accepting a bribe. But I never heard anything more about it since.

He should be in jail!
