Brothers: Hostages were gathering evidence of abuse (by the US) in Iraq

With a Saturday execution deadline looming, the brothers of a Canadian man held hostage in Iraq made another plea to his abductors, saying Friday that their brother was in Iraq to gather information on alleged human rights abuses.

The four men have been gathering evidence about people being treated poorly while "detained by occupation forces," Edward Loney said.

"So it was important for my brother's team to be there to hear the testimonials of people who are being snatched up in the night and detained against their will," Edward Loney said. "He has really strong values about peace and loving people equally, and getting a message out about human rights, the importance of human rights for all individuals."

Matthew Loney, who said his brother has been to Iraq three times, added that the four men were gathering information once left to other humanitarian groups, the ranks of which have thinned because of insurgent attacks.

The brothers said they have received tremendous support domestically and abroad, especially from Muslims.

"We're really encouraged by the fact that his work has not gone unnoticed," said Matthew Loney.

Edward Loney added: "We know that the work that you're doing is important, and you've got our support 100 percent."

Let's pray they can convert their captors to these lofty values ... and quick.

"Talk about shooting yourself in the foot...the terrorists should have been treating these guys like kings, not messing with them."

You just made the same mistake the hostages made by thinking these terrorists are civilized, clear thinking people; they are not.

Fools like this always remind me of the "animals are our friends" bunch, who think by virtue of their ridiculous beliefs they can approach tigers in the wild, pet them, get eaten for lunch, then blame the rest of the human race for pissing off the tiger.

And it goes without saying that when these poor, deluded souls have their heads removed by their new-found friends, George W. Bush will be blamed.

their brother was in Iraq to gather information on alleged human rights abuses.

And he found it right from the source!

Can't get much more successful unless

you lived to tell about it later!

This is just a circus of the absurd...LOL.

They might have tried to set this up, but I don't think that they realized that these guys are serious.

The ROPTM does actually hack their heads off. I don't think they expected that.

Looks like he found what he was looking for.

Not even "alleged" abuses. He found the real deal.

I am probably loopy from lack of sleep, but it makes me think of Jack Nicholson's line in the first Batman movie: "Ever dance with the devil in the pale moonlight?"

So much irony here, so little time.

The Left refuses to acknowledge that we are battling with power mad psychopaths, because the Leftists themselves are power mad psychopaths.

Bravo! I commend your statement, sir. It is direct and to the point.

I would just like to say a few words to those terrorists holding those peaceniks hostage (expecting of course that Al-Qaeda reads FR)::

Hey terrorists, those peace loving people you are holding hostage, they are infidels!
