Shazam! What Took So Long?
Citizen Soldier ^ | December 2005 | Stella L. Jatras

What took so long for it to become obvious that Bosnia and other parts of the Balkans are the launching pad for terrorist attacks in Europe?

The Washington Post writes on 1 December, "Terrorist Cells Find Foothold in Balkans." What a revelation! The fact is, Bosnia became a launching pad as far back as 1992 when the Bosnian Muslim government of Alija Izetbegovic - the government that was supported by the Clinton administration - issued a passport to Osama bin Laden which he used to visit Bosnia and Kosovo on several occasions.

More and more newspapers are finally beginning to expose Bosnia's connection to terrorism cells. A UPI article in The Washington Times of 1 December headlined "Balkans seen as terrorist training ground" reported:

Recent arrests confirm the belief that parts of the Balkans are becoming a launching pad for terrorist attacks in Europe, authorities say. One example came in an apartment occupied by an underground group aiming to blow up the British Embassy in Sarajevo, Western intelligence officials told The Washington Post. There they found explosives, rifles, other arms and a videotape pledging vengeance for the "brothers" killed fighting Americans in Afghanistan and Iraq. Islamic radicals reportedly want to create cells of so-called 'white' al-Qaida, non-Arab members who can avoid racial profiling used to spot potential terrorists.

In 2003, Brendan O'Neill wrote in The [UK] Spectator, "The Bosnian war taught Islamic terrorists to operate abroad. For all the millions of words written about al-Qaeda since the 9/11 attacks two years ago, one phenomenon is consistently overlooked -- the role of the Bosnian war in transforming the mujahedin of the 1980s into the roving Islamic terrorists today."

Will these latest revelations receive as little attention as the report in 1996 in The Houston Chronicle when NATO forces uncovered a terrorist training camp in Bosnia with weapons and explosives? Most disturbing was a cache of ingenious bombs - some made out of children's toys." (my emphasis) Also discovered was a satellite dish giving the mujahedin the capability to communicate between Bosnia and Iran.

The Houston Chronicle further stated that U.S. Admiral Leighton Smith, commander of NATO forces in Bosnia, said as he toured the area, "No one can escape the obvious, that there is terrorist training activity going on in this building and it has direct association with people in the government," referring to the Bosnian Muslim government.

But it gets even more bizarre. Discovered also was a makeup room with charts instructing how to change eye color using contact lenses, peroxide bottles to alter hair color, and a dozen beards and mustaches to use as disguises. In classrooms, instructors had laid out mock-ups of installations. Notebooks detailed the daily lives of possible targets and manuals showed how to build bombs out of children's toys. "There is no military value to these types of devices; rigging toys is an act of terror," (my emphasis) said Col Brian Hoey, a NATO spokesman. His fellow spokesman, Col. John T. Kirkwood, added: "I never saw John Wayne rip the head off a plastic doll and throw it." (my emphasis)

President Bush accuses Iran of sending armed insurgents into Iraq, but where was the outrage when a 1997 Senate Republican Policy Committee report stated, "Clinton-Approved Iranian Arms Transfers Help Turn Bosnia into Militant Islamic Base"? While exposing the Iranian connection to the Balkan war, the report also states that "Perhaps most threatening to the SFOR mission - and more importantly, to the safety of the American personnel serving in Bosnia - is the unwillingness of the Clinton Administration to come clean with the Congress and with the American people about its complicity in the delivery of weapons from Iran to the Muslim government in Sarajevo."

The Italian news agency AKI headlines, "Bosnia: Muslim Newspaper Points to Existence of Islamic Terror Camps," writes, "Sarajevo, 30 August (AKI) - A Bosnian Muslim newspaper on Tuesday joined a chorus of mostly Serbian news reports on the existence of training camps for Islamic terrorists, accusing the international community of closing its eyes in front of this danger. The weekly Slobodna Bosna (Free Bosnia), whose editor is Senad Avdic, a moderate Muslim, in its latest issue described in detail how and where the alleged terrorist camps operate in Bosnia. The paper criticised the commander of the international forces in Bosnia (Eufor) David Leaky for his recent statement that he had no knowledge of the existence of such camps.

"In the article titled 'The Commander of Eufor in Bosnia David Leaky is Playing Dumb', the paper said that there was no point in presenting the facts to the 'uninformed general. 'Is he (Leaky) really uninformed, which is hard to believe, or is he conscientiously deceiving the local public, like most Western politicians who serve in Bosnia and advocate the thesis that the best thing for world security is that all terrorists be concentrated in one place, in Bosnia, where they can be kept under control?', the paper asked. The paper quoted former UN representative in Bosnia, Jacques Klein, as having confirmed to the Security Council that Islamic terrorists were active in Bosnia, but added that it was good they were concentrated in one place, because 'the rest of the world would be safe'."

Let me repeat that idiotic statement by one of the UN's high representatives, "The paper quoted former UN representative in Bosnia, Jacques Klein, as having confirmed to the Security Council that Islamic terrorists were active in Bosnia, but added that it was good they were concentrated in one place, because 'the rest of the world would be safe'." Personally, I always thought that Jacques Klein somewhat resembled Joseph Goebbels, Hitler's Propaganda Minister, in facial appearance, with his pointy nose, etc., but then that's just my observation. Goebbels is the one who coined the phrase "If you tell a lie enough times, it becomes accepted as truth, and, the bigger the lie, the more likely it is to be accepted."

The New York Times of 3 December in an article, "Police Raid Raises Fears of Bosnia as Haven for Terrorists," writes, "A recent police raid on an apartment near this city's airport uncovered evidence of an imminent suicide bombing, intensifying the fears of Western security services that Bosnia is becoming a haven for Islamic militants.

Therefore, it is safe to say Bosnia is the birthplace of Al-Qaeda. At the time, Bosnia's Islamic terrorism was focused against the Serbian people, and therefore "justified." But if al-Qaeda could succeed in Bosnia, it could succeed anywhere in the world. Today, their terrorism is aimed at the American people. If only the Clinton administration had taken serious action against known Islamic terrorists in Bosnia when he had the chance, perhaps 9/11 would not have happened.

"Nope. There is zero evidence that bin Laden ever visited Kosovo or Bosnia. And the bin Laden Bosnian passport story, much beloved of Serbs trying to gain exculpation for their murderous ethnic cleansing campaigns by associating them with our war on terror, is tenuous at best. It comes from the Bosnian weekly “Dani’s” story in 1999 that the Bosnian Embassy in Vienna MAY have issued a passport to bin Laden in 1993. Follow the link and you will see that the bin Laden Bosnian passport story is based on anonymous sources and destroyed documents, the “sources” themselves are unclear as to whether it was even issued, and that in any event, the officials at the embassy in 1993 would not even have known who bin Laden was. Even this guy’s stories were more convincing."

*****Bin Ladin was in Albania and certianly had a Bosnian passport. This was common knowledge among the Security community. They were short visits, but visits nonetheless. Plenty of reports, and the evidence was the issued passports.

"much beloved of Serbs trying to gain exculpation for their murderous ethnic cleansing campaigns by associating them with our war on terror, is tenuous at best."

*****The Serbs did not go on Murderous ethnic cleansing. This is absolutely a wrong description. Serbia did not conduct ethnic cleasing operations according to the true definition of Ethnic cleasing. The Albanian extremist have......and are doing it today....as we write. You do not understand the situation over there..you are making conclusions from reports that you read about, and are false. No discussion or debate.........

I see.......actually paid or "assigned" to provide disinformation? So, you are telling me that these sites are that widely read that it makes an impact on a large scale?

I have only one agenda......to hear the truth and if confirmed, "DISTRIBUTE" the truth. I am loyal to my country as long as the truth is being told. If not, then I WILL expose a lie in a heartbeat. I am not, and will never be politically correct as a matter of routine.

Thanks for your attention in this post.......:) I love to stir the pot with facts....

I'm dumbfounded.... if they bothered to wade thru any mainstream islamic forum a few years back to read the articles or look at their collection of islamic snuff videos of the Balkan and Chechnyan jihads, it would have been clear for all to see.

"Nope. There is zero evidence that bin Laden ever visited Kosovo or Bosnia."

The Wall Street Journal Europe.

November 1, 2001

Excerpts

Al Qaeda´s Balkan Links
by Marcia Christoff Kurop

The Balkans´ uncharacteristically silent exit from the world stage as the most prominent international hot spot of the last decade belies its status as a major recruiting and training center of Osama bin Laden´s al Qaeda network. By feeding off the region´s impoverished republics and taking root in the unsettled diplomatic aftermath of the Bosnia and Kosovo conflicts, al Qaeda, along with Iranian Revolutionary Guard-sponsored terrorists, have burrowed their way into Europe´s backyard.

For the past 10 years, the most senior leaders of al Qaeda have visited the Balkans, including bin Laden himself on three occasions between 1994 and 1996. The Egyptian surgeon turned terrorist leader Ayman Al-Zawahiri has operated terrorist training camps, weapons of mass destruction factories and money-laundering and drug-trading networks throughout Albania, Kosovo, Macedonia, Bulgaria, Turkey and Bosnia. This has gone on for a decade. Many recruits to the Balkan wars came originally from Chechnya, a jihad in which Al Qaeda has also played a part.

Although Clinton wasn't inagurated until 1993, there is no doubt that he was Alija Izetbegovic's biggest supporter, who said in his Islamic Declaration, "There can be no peace or coexistence between Islamic faith and non-Islamic faith political institutions....The Islamic movement must and can take place as soon as it is morally and numerically strong neough, not only to destroy the non-Islamic one, but to build up a new Islamic one."

No one was more passionate in his destruction of the Christian Serbs than William Jefferson Clinton.

You must admire him greatly!

There should have been an end of quote after the last sentence, "Many recruits to the Balkan wars came originally from Chechnya, a jihad in which Al Qaeda has also played a part."

Sorry, but just wanted to make it clear that that is where the quote from The Wall Street Journal ended.

Like I said, Doc, and as the article you just posted verifies, there is zero evidence to support your contention that bin Laden visited Bosnia and Kosovo. As pointed out earlier in this thread, your column is filled with factual errors and that is one of them.

There was in fact a report that bin Laden may have visited Albania (Fatos Klosi of ShIK, iirc)in the 1990s, but other than your unsubstantiated assertions, there is nothing to show he ever went to Bosnia or Kosovo.

I know your agenda is that the Serbs were the good guys and the Croats & Bosnians & Albanians, i.e. everyone else, were the bad guys. However, if you have to fabricate stuff to make your case, you may want re-examine some of your beliefs.

******Bin Ladin had a Bosnian Passport, fact. He did visit Bosnia to see to his Jihadist. The Croats, Bosnian Muslims and Albanian KLA were the bad guys here. There were Serbian paramilitary action that were also bad guys as Serbia convicted 14 or 15 just this past week. The ICTY is doing a horrid job by letting Ramush and Fatmir L. go free. They are responsible for not only murdering Serb men, women and children, but also Albanians. The Mafia reigns in Kosovo along with the UN heirarchy. $$$$. The U.S. is also involved in this coverup and favoritism. The middle of the road Albanians and minorities will be the victims. The Islamic Fundies are targeting Internationals for next years assaults. The Serbs did not murder 8,000 muslims in Srebrinica. 3,010 voted in the next years election for starters. Even the Albanians don't know the whole truth as they are inclined to believe what they are told......We have only seen the beginning of a Jihad...in the Balkans that will ignite in Kosovo.

mark, if you admitted your anti-Serb hatred and edged a little towards admitting that a few of us on this board are correct, you might sound more convincing. Instead, your incredolous BS only exposes your agenda of spewing Anti-Serb hatred.

I can tell as fact that Bin Laden in 2000 was in control of an Islamic aid organization operating in Kosovo. The reason I can verify this is because a beige 4x4 from this Islamic aid organization was observed videotaping the U.S. Depart of State compound located on the Dragodan side of Pristina. As a result of the U.S. reaction to this all Intetl efforts were then directed in identifying the members of this Islamic aid organization all other operations were then suspended. Huge paranoia ensued. Take a guess who made the link to Bin Laden? It was not I.....

I will have to look up which Islamic Aid organization involved and get back to you. The amount of Islamic aid organizations funneling money back to the middle east under the guise of charity does make your head spin. How much actually helps the poor Muslim makes me wonder.
