Attorney General's Office encouraging kids to destroy toy guns
AP ^ | 10/11/05

They're going to be destroying guns in Providence today -- toy guns, that is.

The Attorney General's Office is holding another "Toy Gun Bash" at one p-m.

Kids will get free toys in exchange for destroying their toy guns in a machine called the "Bash-O-Matic." And they'll also be able to challenge Attorney General Patrick Lynch in a three-point shooting contest.

The Bash-o-Matic was designed and built by students at the Rhode Island School of Design.

The Attorney General's Criminal Prosecution Unit organized the event along with the U-S Attorney's Office, the city of Providence and other departments and agencies.

Authorities expect pretend crime to plummet.

Remember: When pretend guns are outlawed, only pretend criminals will have guns.

It's hard to tell elected Democrat officials from kooks.

My two boys were forbidden from having toy guns or pointing any shooting device toward another person in "play".

Both, however, have won awards in rifle marksmanship and archery.

Candy store holdups will plummet as a result of this well-reasoned, intellectual policy of love.

*leans over and shakes head with astonishment*

And this is the best way that Democratic politicians know how to prevent the next Columbine-esque massacre????

They're TOTALLY missing the Heart of Mankind, the emotions, the Anger, the Hatred, the Insanity that characterizes the personality of the most infamous criminals who've gone on shooting sprees.

Is the 'p-m' another POS from the AP Style Guide? I thought that it was 'P.M.'.

I sure hope this is the central campaign issue for the democrats in 2006.

It'll be fun to watch.

These people never get out of their all night focus groups to see how the rest of us live.

My boys and girls had toy guns, pointed them at each other in play, had great fun. They were also taught how to kill four legged and two legged quarry. My kids now love an opportunity to give a little "help" to a misguided Iraq terrorist. My brothers and sisters teethed on a revolver.

Similar story with my kids. Alas, now my son is a Marine. Go figure.

No it isn't. The kooks don't wear suits.

This is the silliest thing i've ever heard of!!My old drill instructor used to say,"in Kentucky they put a gun in the crib to keep the baby quiet".A better idea on this would be for the police to carry cap pistols and ban actors(murder of policeman by actor from sopranos).

Sadly, no. It's Rhode Island.

I saw the headline and just knew that the clueless idiots there were at it again. And RISD built the Bash-O-Matic?
For their next trick, they might want to consider banding together and producing one single decent piece of art. That'd be a refreshing change.

RI...home of the scoreless soccer game!

I, and every kid I knew, grew up playing with toy guns and pretend shooting each other. All the ones I have kept track of have become law abiding citizens. I have also won awards for shooting in both archery and handgun events, altho I am a little past my prime now. I don't think being allowed to play with toy guns in anyway contributes to people being criminals or serial killers. These Dimwits are full of it.

...and while the great crime fighters collect and destroy toy guns organized crime still owns and operates Rhode Island.

Maybe instead they will give the children violent video games where the kids join gangs, steal cars, deal drugs, rape women and shoot cops. We are too progressive to be very judgemental about that but heaven forbid a child should have a toy gun and play soldier!
