ACLU Calls Christmas Defenders "Well Organised Extremists"
BBC News ^ | 10 December 2005 | Matthew Davis

The American Civil Liberties Union is an active defender of the religious freedoms guaranteed in the constitution, and is often the target of conservative ire over the issue.

This week, Fran Quigley, head of the ACLU in Indiana, hit back with an editorial entitled: "How the ACLU didn't steal Christmas."

He said the group was being demonised by well-organised "extremists" whose real agenda was to crush religious diversity, "and make a few bucks in the process".

"Nowhere in the Sermon on the Mount did Jesus Christ ask that we celebrate his birth with narrow-mindedness and intolerance, especially for those who are already marginalised and persecuted," he wrote.

He said the ACLU's mission for justice saw it work hard to protect the rights of free religious expression for all people, including Christians.

You can join the fight against the ACLU and their ilk by becoming involved with and supporting the following organizations:

Alliance Defense Fund (ADF) - http://www.alliancedefensefund.org

American Center for Law and Justice (ACLJ) - http://www.aclj.org

The Rutherford Institute - http://www.rutherford.org/

Stop the ACLU Coalition - http://www.stoptheaclu.org

Here are a few examples of how two of those organizations are fighting back:

Yeah, they're all for defending religious liberty. They merely want to destroy every vestige of America's religious heritage in the process.

I just love these people. They make the argument that such a campaign does not exist, then proceed to prove that it not only exists but that they have a hand in it.

They're totally blind to it, too.

We Christians are just waking up at long last. The ACLU will be tossed on the ashheap of history, just as their parent organization, the Communist Party, has been in the former Soviet Union. With 90% of the nation's wealth held by Christians, there is a huge elephant in the room, if it decides to act as an elephant, that is.

Last thing the ACLU is known for is defending anyone's religious rights.

Bill Frist should impose a rule that having had membership in the ACLU disqualifies you for appointment to the federal judiciary.

Allowing someone to kill us through there religion is not defending religious freedoms.

especially for those who are already marginalised and persecuted

They're being marginalized? Well, whoever is in charge of marginalizing them ought to be fired, because for a group of people that is so marginalized, we've been hearing an awful lot about them. This is almost as good as the libs saying how they're being "censored". There sure seems to be plenty of anti-Bush sentiment in the media last I checked!

I won't even get into the persecution bit, purely because it is laughable and I would probably end up writing something deemed too offensive for FR. Suffice it to say, I haven't seen any burnings at the stake held in my neck of the woods.
