Newsweek: “Bush Might Be The Most Isolated President in Modern History”
NewsBusters ^ | 12/11/05 | Noel Sheppard

The latest issue of Newsweek featured an almost 4,000 word article – written by Evan Thomas and Richard Wolffe, with assistance from Holly Bailey, Daniel Klaidman, Eleanor Clift, Michael Hirsh and John Barry – that painted a pretty bleak picture of President Bush as possibly being “the most isolated president in modern history.” The authors referred to Bush as being in a “bubble” that blocks out thoughts, policy suggestions, and ideas that he is either unwilling or intellectually incapable of absorbing. Some of the lowlights:

Newsweek.... oh you mean Baby TIME. Anyone who claims to read Newsweek is lying, because no one who has read it would actually admit to it.

Is there any way that FR can poll this? 'Cause I think Carter was worse.

Under their definition, Winston Churchill was "insulated" as well. Heaven forbid a leader take a principled stand on anything.

Silly writer...reference this ominous statement about Bush: “‘The president would ask the generals, 'Do you have what you need to complete the mission?' as opposed to saying, 'Tell me, General, what do you need to win?' which would have opened up a whole new set of conversations,’ says this official, who did not want to be identified discussing high-level meetings.”

Must've been a newbie to the world of the Military...Completing the Mission is the WIN. Always. No Question about it. A Civilian might not understand what the President was asking but a Private after about 3 days of basic training would know exactly (and most certainly a General)...and he'd either say what he needed (our Army trains them that way) or he'd say he'd get it done. It's not a baseball game....

Seems to me that President Bush doesn't suffer fools gladly and he's all about getting the job done. And he takes his job seriously. No breaks to an alcove or gossip sessions with secretly pulled FBI files on Republican opponents.....how refreshing... and how typical of the swallow appearance driven world that by not playing Tag with the Washington Elites Bush is viewed as in a bubble....well, thank God. Hope he keeps him there!

Maybe not more so than Woodrow Wilson.

LOL. Don't forget Wilson was not only incompetent, racist, and an elitist intellectual, but also a Democrat!

Do all "professional" journalists have this grossly inflated sense of their own self-importance?

How can they possibly tear themselves away from their mirror each morning?

“the most isolated president in modern history.”

The Left is really stuck on bogus superlatives, aren't they? "The worst economy in 50 years" (of G.H.W. Bush), "the fastest job growth in 30 years" (Clinton, of course), "the worst job approval ratings in 25 years" (G.W. Bush). Unless they don't consider Lyndon Johnson, Richard Nixon or Jimmy Carter part of "modern history", the statement is absurd on its face. Come to think of it, even their Prince (of Darkness) Clinton wasn't exactly the toast of the town during Monica-gate.

From Newsweak: "On Message: Bush often speaks before pre-screened crowds, with signs stressing his theme"

Signs!! Signs!?!

Outrageous!

Yeah he's isolated from the unbiased left wing news establishment that ridicules him on a daily basis.

Correct.

The President declines to host the usual parade of left wing elites and glitterati.

So what?

Their hatred is so deep that they are willing to say anything to discredit Bush, no matter what. As Newsweak readers are basically liberals, it's not much different from people in DU writing to each other.

And why doesn't he listen to the intelligent and thoughtful Cindy Sheehan and end the illegal occupation of New Orleans.

Prince (of Darkness) Clinton wasn't exactly the toast of the town during Monica-gate.

On behalf of Lord Vader I demand an immediate withdrawal for that slur !

Newsweek is a biased rag that doesn't deserve to reach print.
Hopefully this piece of crap mag. will continue to lose subscribers and go under leaving its employees in the unemployment lines where they belong.

These people make my hair hurt.

Which is it:

Cheney is running the country.

Rove is Bush's brain.

Bush is in a bubble and doesn't accept or want outside opinions?
