This from the mouth of a 14-year-old boy: "They tied the legs and hands of 11 Sunni men and hanged them off the river bridge - head-first. But they still refused to talk, so Sheik Khadum Shibley shot them in the arms and legs and then he cut the ropes."
The schoolboy Munthadar Ishmail Kudair's chilling account of a Shiite village's despatch of suspected Sunni insurgents adds credibility to rising Sunni complaints of a long-delayed but vicious Shiite fight-back after two years of relentless Sunni-backed violence in Iraq.
The summary executions, confirmed by the boy's father and others in the village, come amid anxiety by US and UN officials over widespread reports of rampant torture and killings by freelance death squads and the Shiite militiamen who now dominate Iraq's security forces.
...
The blood-letting and a campaign of random ethnic-cleansing as hundreds of families - Sunni and Shiite - flee communities in which they are in the minority, challenge US hopes that a stable democracy will emerge from today's national elections and President George W. Bush's claim that Iraq can sidestep a civil war that many analysts fear is inevitable.

I read this and conclude that the Sunnis had better get to the ballot box and get involve with the government and security forces, including informing on terrorists in their midst. Otherwise it will be dog-eat-dog, and the Sunnis are greatly outnumbered!
There may be a civil war..but that's no reason for us to stop doing the right thing.
Good. Guess all those years of feeding people feet first into wood chippers, raping their daughters and murdering their sons is catching up to them at last. Pity it was over too quick.
Only if they put panties on their head.
IMHO, this is precisely why insurgents are now talking to the US about participation in the electoral process in iraq. they know full well if they're not killed, but captured, the worst they get is 3 squares a day, a koran, prayer rug etc. etc. etc..however, if they're caught by their own, they face justice/questioning of a different sort..even if they are only "suspected" insurgents..
Iraq election tomorrow. Timing of the story?
Does anyone know what the difference is between a Sunni and a Shiite?
I mean they are all Musliim, right...?? geez they are not even tolerant of their OWN religion
The Sunni's are the ones using the IED's to kill our soldiers . What comes around, goes around !!
Payback's a b1tch, eh?
Payback can be a real bummer...
Should have talked.
It's like the difference between a Catholic and a Baptist. Same God, same Bible, but a yawning chasm of difference in how they worship and how they view their relationship with God.
Iraqization is working!
Different sects of Islam.. I dont know enough to really articulate the theological differences, but Im sure they are easy enough to look up.
The major difference is that Iraq is around 60% Shiite and 20% Sunni. Saddam and his henchmen were all Sunni's who were quite brutal to the Shiite majority.
As if this wasn't predictable.
Must be more "radical" muslims that forgot to pin their "R's" to their foreheads that morning.
First I'd consider the source. Are the correspondent and paper reliable?
mean they are all Musliim, right...?? geez they are not even tolerant of their OWN religion.............. Sort of like some Christian faiths.
an eye for an eye, a tooth for a tooth..
Good point. Kind of tough to get upset when these guys demand their "day in court."
