The Air Force Reserve plans to discharge a lieutenant colonel accused of causing thousands of dollars in damage by defacing cars with pro-Bush bumper stickers, officials said Friday.
Lt. Col. Alexis Fecteau, a pilot with 500 combat hours in the first Persian Gulf war and the Balkans, is charged with felony criminal mischief. He is accused of using paint stripper to write "F--- Bush" in 18-inch-high letters on cars at Denver International Airport with bumper stickers supporting President Bush and conservative talk-show host Rush Limbaugh.
Jim Miller, a spokesman for the Air Force Reserve Command at Robins Air Force Base, Ga., said the command plans to begin the process of giving Fecteau an administrative discharge. He said Fecteau does not face any military punishment.
Neither Fecteau nor his lawyer, Patrick Mulligan, immediately returned calls. Mulligan has said Fecteau would plead innocent.
Larry Whittemore of Pueblo, who said his Ford Expedition suffered nearly $2,500 damage in the spree, welcomed the news that Fecteau faces discharge.
"I don't think he is fit to be in the Air Force," Whittemore said. "This guy's charter is to protect and defend the Constitution and the people of the United States."
Fecteau is charged with 13 counts of criminal mischief, five of them felonies because the damage to five vehicles was estimated at more than $500 each.
Police said the vehicles were damaged between January and July 2005 and that a "bait car" rigged with a video camera recorded Fecteau damaging a vehicle at the airport.
A spokeswoman for the Denver district attorney said the Air Force had asked to take jurisdiction in the case but prosecutors refused.
"Our reply was 'no,"' spokeswoman Lynn Kimbrough said. "If there were Air Force repercussions that would be fine; it didn't affect our filing."
Lt. Matthew Fuller, another spokesman at Robins, denied the Air Force wanted to take over the case. Kimbrough said Capt. Steven Loertscher, a lawyer at Peterson Air Force Base in Colorado Springs, contacted the DA's office and asked to take over the case. Loertscher did not return a call seeking comment.
An arrest warrant alleges that Fecteau admitted to investigators he had vandalized cars beginning around the time of the 2004 election.
Much of the damage was minor, involving painting over bumper stickers.
After the charges became public, Fecteau was removed as director of operations for reserve forces at the National Security Space Institute at Peterson.
Don't let the door hit ya where the good Lord split ya.
wonder if he moonlighted for the dims in Milwaukee slashing tires and such,too...?
after reading the first sentence I thought he was putting pro-bush stickers ON the car's!! Silly me ... just thought since he was military ... oh well, all our military can't think logically. Might be wise to take a military poll and everyone who 'hates Bush' should be taken out ... I'd feel safer!! ;-)
With this clown gone, perhaps there are only 2 or 3 more anyway!! ;-)
"Kick him to the curb."
Take him up to 40,000 feet and kick him out of the plane.
"bait car"
I wonder if it took a master baiter to hook this sucker.
So let's say that I go to work and write, F-my boss" all over everyone's desk? Am I getting fired?
Hello, Commander in Chief?????
This pinko pig has besmirched MY Air Force! (1989-1995, 157th Air Refeuling Group)
1. As far as I am concerned, that's an Article 88 offense. No doubt it would have been prosecuted as such under UCMJ when Clinton was in office.
2. A lot of new age liberalism has infected the officer corps. I have noticed it since the late 1970's when I was in Air Force ROTC. See Gerald Atkinson's website, which I will find later, or google "The New Totalitarians". It really increased during the Clinton administration, and especially at Annapolis. I don't know about Colorado Springs, but was likely bad at West Point and the Army(especially when the useless Claudia Kennedy got general's rank).
I thought about this as well but then I heard that he was a Reservist. Now hold on to your hats, but a reservist is only bound (and hence chargeable under) the UCMJ while actively drilling or on active duty orders. If this POS wasn't activated or on orders and he did this on a non-drill weekend, he can't be charged, hence the administrative separation/discharge and no charges.

The more you know. . .

I'm sure the intention of the Air Force was not to cover this up and bury it deep to protect one of their own. Nooo, they wouldn't do that, would they?
I always hated Lost in Space Command, now I know why. I could never get excited about a satellite over airplanes. Being a grounded aviator stationed at Peterson AFB I always gave the Space Operations guys a hard time for wearing a flight suit and leather flying jacket. I would always ask them if their computer caught on fire did they jump on it and smoother the flames. Really used to get them spooled up through the ceiling tiles. Looks like another of their brethren is doing them proud with this type of behavior, its been my experience enlisted get to face a Courts-Martial and the Officers get to retire or separate. I guess Ill have to see how things turn out with this Sir.
He is a real zero, should be in mental institution.
"...causing thousands of dollars in damage by defacing cars with pro-Bush bumper stickers..."
Was he defacing cars by putting pro-Bush bumper stickers on them, or defacing cars that had pro-Bush bumper stickers on them?...:)
