Student Arrested At OKC Airport After Attempted Security Breach

OKLAHOMA CITY -- An international student at the University of Central Oklahoma was arrested Thursday night at Will Rogers Airport after trying to get through security without a ticket, abducting a woman outside the airport and then attempting to steal a car, according to police.

Humberto Deita, 21, from Puebla, Mexico, and enrolled in UCO's design program, has been charged with auto burglary and attempted abduction.

Authorities said an area soldier awaiting a ride got in between Deita and a woman in the car the student allegedly tried to carjack. Deita eventually gave up, and police said he tried to steal one of their cars parked nearby.

Police have not identified exactly what Deita's intent was; however, an airport spokeswoman said odd behavior at Will Rogers definitely attracts attention from patrons.

"They don't know how to react because they don't know what the intent of this person is, especially when they act a little crazy," said Karen Carney, airport spokeswoman.

Okay, I've read Karen Carney's comment several times and it makes no sense. Am I just tired from Christmas shopping or is it nonsense?

Brave of that soldier to stand between the crazed Mexican and the targeted carjack victim. Heros in Iraq; heros at home, too.

What, he wasn't shot by the Air Marshals? This will not play well with the race baiters making a lot of noise about the incident in Miami.

Send him to Miami. They know how to handle folks like that at the airport there.

"Okay, I've read Karen Carney's comment several times and it makes no sense."

Not long ago, they had another college student try to board a plane at Will Rogers, with a pipe bomb in his bag. And then, there's the Hinrichs kid, a student at OU, who blew himself up outside the stadium during a ballgame, with a backpack bomb. Over 84,000 people in there, for a game against Kansas State. They locked the stadium down, and have issued some fairly irrational explanations, all denying any possible terrorist connection. Plus, you've got to consider lasting repercussions of the Murrah Building bombing.

As a result, they're a little prickly about weird, threatening behavior in public spaces out there along about now, I'd imagine.

Huh? What did the Solider do, jump in over her lap or something? Pretty odd.

Good on him in any event.

"International students" get an F-1 visa and pay about 3 times as much per course as the average student.

Was this guy an illegal alien but the PC-garbage machine instead decided to phrase it as "international student"?

No, you just browsed too many grammar books at Borders.

Read,

"They don't know how to react because they don't know what the intent of this person is, especially when they act a little crazy"

as

"They don't know how to react because they don't know what the intent of a person like this is, especially when a person like this acts a little crazy"

Local news described him as an "exchange student"--not sure if that helps.

I'm still here, and I do love the area--but then, I live in the country, not in Norman or Oklahoma City.

Thought you all might be interested in this story out of Oklahoma...

It involves a University of Central Oklahoma exchange student from Mexico. Subject also abducted a woman outside Will Rogers International Airport and attempted to steal a car.

Thank you to Regulator Country for bringing this post to my attention. I apologize for the delay in pinging this to the list.

This is certainly not going to get the fellow any style points.
