Unlike the other major broadcast network Sunday talk shows (as reported by NewsBusters), NBCs The Chris Matthews Show led with Thursdays historic elections in Iraq, while mentioning the surveillance scandal raised in a New York Times article Friday as almost an afterthought. Then, after the break, Matthews began on another topic that is likely much more of a concern to Americans than the legality of wiretaps on terrorists, illegal immigration.
After introducing his guests Joe Klein of TIME, Andrea Mitchell of NBC News, David Brooks of The New York Times, and syndicated columnist Kathleen Parker Matthews went right into Thursdays Iraqi elections. With the notable exception of Klein, the panel seemed in agreement that this was an historic event on Thursday, and that democracy in Iraq now seems possible...

who has a gun to Chris's head?
Chris is a weather vane. Maybe he knows the worth of the spying allegations (none).
Whatever. Chrissy is still a whore.
Only because Chrissy's weekend crapfest was taped before the NY-Slimes story really had time to hit the fan...
A constitution, two elections with record turnouts and no election hijinx, no shortage of candidates...nah, just a fluke.
Chris Matthews eats his shorts
I agree with your assessment of the validity of the allegations. I would, however, make a distinction between their worth and their significance.
This may be the last, desperate, gamble of the left in what is turning out to be the war for the future of human civilization. At least their last tactic that is even modestly within the bounds of "acceptable political combat." They are falling back on their playbook of 1973 and attempting to frame this as they did their "silent coup" against Richard Nixon. Well, George W. Bush is not Richard Nixon and their gambit will fail on that level.
So, this is a good thing, right? Not necessarily. When vicious animals are backed into a corner and see that they are going to be wiped out they don't just give up, they strike back. Look at what is beginning to happen in Latin America, Russia and some parts of Africa. The forces of death are on the march and their target is us. We beat them back on this BS gambit and bullets are going to start flying, bombs are going to start going off in unexpected places, oil supplies will be cut off and any available American targets will be attacked.
We are going to win this particular skirmish and, in fact, will likely give the forces of evil a serious drubbing in the process. I think Harry Ried may end up in an orange jump suit, along with several other choice demon seed. But don't mistake that for victory. This is the last skirmish before the all out war. Check the ammo, sharpen your swords and gird your loins. This isn't going to be pretty.
too little too late for me to ever have any respect for this jerk.
Before or after he loads them up?

Yup, except Walter Cronkite and the NYTimes does not control information.
Like I say, even a blind squirrel finds a nut now and then....
You guys want to know why the NSA story is no longer a story? Consider the following...
An uncomfortable Senate Minority Leader Harry Reid admitted on Sunday that he was briefed on the Bush administration's decision to have the NSA monitor domestic communications in the wake of the 9/11 attacks
House Minority Leader Nancy Pelosi confessed late Saturday that she signed off on President Bush's decision to have a top intelligence agency conduct "unspecified activities" to gather intelligence on possible terrorists operating inside the U.S.
An excellent point.
Back when this program started in 2001, the Dems controlled the Senate.
Very strange.
Andrea Mitchell reduced all concerns about illegal aliens to "racism", and Matthews immediately challenged her on it by reminding her that illegal aliens are breaking the law.
If I recall, he actually raised that point several times in the discussion.
I would still love an investigation to see who is leaking this information. I think Bush and the AG should stop being on the defensive and go offense.
The story will just fade away along with all the other false stories pushed by the left.
Also because they now have nowhere else to go with it, since 50 USC 1802 details precisely how surveillance may be employed without a FISA "warrant".
Briefing Pelosi was no doubt part of the statutory requirement in 50 USC 1802 to inform the House and Senate Intel Committees when warrantless operations are being conducted.
I've posted much of 50 USC 1802 on other threads, ot you can Google that phrase and go directly to the complete text of the law.
No laws were broken.
