"Class of the league. Right at Christmas, this is just a nightmare."

About ten years ago, the sister of a co-worker committed suicide about two weeks before Christmas, but before she did it, she bought and wrapped Christmas presents for her family, which they found when they discovered the body. In her depressed state, she could not understand that this gesture made things worse, not better.

Prayers for the Dungy Family.

On a personal note, Coach Dungy , his wife and daughter visited my son in the hospital the day after Christmas two years ago.He is a fine man. They gave us a great Christmas, now are suffering this one. It sure knocks some of the joy of this one down for me.

I really like coach Dungy. He always seems to have so much composure and class.

Unfortunately this tragedy befalls other upstanding people as well, Brit Hume lost his son a few years back under similar circumstances.

Tony Dungy has a very strong faith in the Lord. We need to lift him and his family up during this time.

"With anything that comes across my desk, if I pray about it and ask for the Lord's direction, he's going to work those situations for his glory. It will be for the best, and it will succeed. Maybe not the success the world would see, but success in his eyes." – Tony Dungy, NFL Coach, Indianapolis Colts

I can't think of many more situations worse than a suicide by an immediate family member around Christmas.

God will hold the Dungy family in His almighty arms--may they somehow feel His peace that passes all understanding.

Living here in Indy this has reverberated through our office. It's amazing how much people here love Mr. Dungy - the sorrow here is genuine if not palpable. A testament to Coach Dungy's character.

Dungy has always been one of my favorite coaches, even when I "hate" his team! For a long time, I thought the guy was just "too nice" to be a great coach, but this season I thought for sure the Nice Guy would "get the girl"... but alas, I cannot fathom what he is going through, my heart goes out to him and his family. Speaking from experience, losing someone to suicide is one of the worst things that can happen to a family.

My first thought was "choking game." Often mistaken for suicide.

What? Suicide means suicide as far as I am concerned. If your comment means to imply that the young man ia a drug user, what evidence have you seen to support this contention? If you are not aware of any such evidence or allegation, on what do you base this assumption. He is black? He is an NFL coach's son? he lives in Tampa?

You may be right. What troubles me is the leap you made to get there. If you have information on this that I have not seen then I'm sorry for questioning your comments. In the absence of any such evidence I would wonder what would cause you to assume such?

You're right.

I learned a long time ago to not judge the implication of suicide until all the facts were in.

A friend's sister died, and immediately the word was suicide. After the autopsy, if was revealed that she had died as a result of a reaction to a legitimately prescribed drug.

I had a sister die at age 2 in 1964. My father has yet to recover. Losing a child must be the hardest thing for a parent

what a heartbreak. Dungy just seems universally respected, can't imagine how heartbroken he and his family must be. does anyone know how old his son is? why he was living in Tampa? anything?

This is shocking to everyone down here. Several people calling in to the radio station have broken down in the middle of their calls. To everyone: Please pray for the Dungy family at this horrible time.

How ironic and horrible. Such a fine Christian man and such a leader of men yet helpless in the face of such an event.

Whoa, friend..first.I put a question mark next to my comment..and it's a logical question..Young black males are, very sadly, probably 100 times more likely to die from a drug OD than from suicide..and you'd expect, if possible, LE to try to cover up any drug use..It's a family tragedy..it shouldn't be in the media circus spotlight..
