U.N. Hit by a Bolt From the Right ~~ Bolton causing WAVES>>>>that's good.

John Bolton is seen as 'brilliant' or as 'a bully.' But the U.S. ambassador is having an impact.

UNITED NATIONS — U.S. Ambassador John R. Bolton's mission to overhaul the U.N. is a lot like Hercules' mythical labor to clean a mountain of manure from the Augean stables, joked a friend while introducing him before a recent speech. The difference for Bolton, she said, is that the animals making the mess are still there.

Recounting the story, Bolton leans his head back and laughs. And laughs, until his face turns red.

"She said it. I didn't," he says.

After four months as ambassador, Bolton is still shoveling hard. Most of his fellow diplomats agree that the blunt-spoken envoy is indeed unconventional. Some call him "a bully," and others say he is "brilliant." But opinion is divided about whether he is effective — if he is cleaning up the mess, or adding to it.

"He is having a definite impact," said Ambassador Mihnea Motoc of Romania, a temporary member of the Security Council. "Others wish they could do things the same way."

But Bolton's methods have often put him at odds with the United States' traditional allies here, particularly Britain, which has worked to broker face-saving compromises.

I like this one:

When Bush came to the U.N. for the global summit three months ago, TV boom mikes eavesdropped on him joking with Annan: "How's my boy John doing? Has he blown up the building yet?"

Kirkpatrick was my favorite... if ever a woman had the mettle to be president... she most certainly did.

True, I'd like to see her take on Mrs. Clinton.

Would love to see Kirkpatrick debate the whore and put her in the toilet where she belongs.

Maybe Ann Coulter instead. Better looking too.

I have a suspicion that there is a lot more support out there for the United States than we hear about on the news. These last few years of Bush's second term may see a groundswell of changes and shifts in the international arena among the poorer, capitalistic countries of the world.

He has floated the idea of a sort of a la carte diplomacy, in which the United States would fund only the U.N. agencies it thought were effective.

I really like Bolton. That was one of Bush's greater moments putting him in while congress was in recess. Bolton sounds like a guy who refuses to suck up and kiss up.

It's my own greatest weakness ... and greatest strength.

But opinion is divided about whether he is effective — if he is cleaning up the mess, or adding to it.

All he is is noisy. Nobody in the UN will agree that they need reforming, so nobody will listen to his plans. Nobody in the UN believes that Bolton is actually interested in helping the organization so they're not going to work with him. Congress controls the budget and they'll never cut off UN funding. So in the end what will he accomplish? He makes good headlines but a year from now when his term is up, unless he's recess appointed again, the UN will be no different than when he first walked in the door.

Absolutely NOT Ann Coulter for US President. Ann Coulter (constitutional attorney, scholar of hisory)to be justly seated to the right of Clarence Thomas on the bench of the Supreme Court of the United States of America.

Ummm Ann on the Supreme Court ... We would always be wondering if she was wearing anything under that black robe or not.

That woman with that sense of precision and logic would never ever find herself in any state of undress in any place at any time. I don't believe you have a full understanding of her sense of propriety.

Considering the UN and the administrations opinions of it I don't think that there was any right person for the job. In fact I think that Bush could have sent a stronger message on how relevant he thinks the UN is by just leaving the position empty.
