Parks, school offer Gay Games sites

Oak Park-River Forest High School and the Park District of Oak Park have agreed to host events for the Gay Games this summer, if the village is named as a site for the event.

Soccer will be played at both the high school and at Barrie Park, Oak Park Area Convention and Visitor's Bureau President and CEO Rich Carollo said. The high school will also host badminton and tennis.

"Now that we have those three events squared away, we're working to schedule a fourth event, cycling," Carollo said. "All that's left is for the international committee to name us."

I'm not really familiar with Oak Park. I know it's a suburb, and predominantly white. Does anyone have any info on their political leaning?

Presidential politics: Oak Park is in Cook County, which voted Democratic in the last two presidential elections. According to unofficial vote totals for 2004, Bush received 583,774 votes and John Kerry received 1,389,631 votes.

They can't just compete against hetero athletes in regular competition?

If this means heteros can't sign up for their competition, isn't that discrimination based on sexual preference?
