There's nothing less fun than watching Hollywood elites pat each other on the back for sticking it to mainstream America.

I already have a lunch bet with a co-worker that Brokeback will win the Oscar for Best Picture, and the nominations aren't even out yet. I am that sure of Hollywood's agenda.
To: Zender500
I think even AMPAS is very concerned about the general public reaction when movies like
Brokeback Mountain and
Syriana gets Oscar nods, which will turn off the majority of Americans in no time flat.

If I placed bets, I'd bet BM is going to be a huge hit. I think every liberal in America will make a pilgrimage to see it, just like they did for Fahrenheit 911.

I don't watch Hollyweird awards shows, I'm not swayed by the awards Hollyweird gives itself and I don't go to movies.
Hollyweird can go Brokeback Mountain itself.

Oh well, another homo thread.
I might as well insert my Politically Incorrect Elton John joke in here...
Did you hear that Elton John's new blushing bride is worried about contracting botulism?
He heard that you can get it from old meat in a can.

I will never go to see broken-backside mountain now matter how many Oscars or Nobel Peace Prizes it wins.

These awards are meaningless. They reflect the opinions of no one. The public votes on movies every matinee, when they spend their hard-earned money and 2 1/2 hours of their busy lives sitting in a dark room with a bunch of strangers eating popcorn.
Hype doesn't work. Elitism doesn't work. Word of mouth works. People see movies other people recommend, not movies Hollywood declares "must-see." I would go so far as to say that Hollywood's endorsement is a kiss of death at the box office. I know that I'm immediately suspicious of any movie that's nominated for one of these trinket awards.

Brokeback Mountain will be a US$100 million hit, but only for the curiousity factor. Even Michael Medved--who intensely disliked the subject matter of the film--said this movie had excellent acting performances (especially Heath Ledger, who will definitely get nominated for possibly a Best Actor Oscar) and flat-out superb cinematography.

I haven't cared for YEARS about who gets what award in Hollywood. Vote with your wallet. Don't see their movies.

There's nothing more pathetic than watching
Hollywood elites pat each other on their
VD covered butts for sticking it to "flyover"
America.

Get ready for this to be the HBO, Showtime, Starz feature presentation for the next 5 years. This will also be made a part of the curriculum in every literature/cinematography college class in the nation.

Of course there are Freepers that have watched the Golden Globes. I have myself, though not in the latter years.
Why? The entertainment industry was of interest to me at the time. O.D'd on it's excess coupled with increasingly bad films coupled with never ending undisguised Bush bash fest/Christian bash fest/Conservative bash fest killed it and haven't looked back.
I haven't even turned in to watch a couple minutes since prior to the Iraq war and Robbin's "wind" sweeping through the plains comment. TPOTC being blacklisted at the awards shows, except People's Choice obviously, killed these nominations as surely as Arafat and Carter receiving the Nobel peace prize killed that award. They are a joke now.
