I think that Forecaster Franklin just made this up so that he could win a bet by calling the last storm of the year or the correct number of storms for the year. Probably an office pool. ;-)

I dunno. It seems to me that the Weather Bureau is being especially attentive these days. I followed the satellite coverage religiously through the season, and I'll grant you that I was skeptical several times, e.g. early Wilma, and even early Katrina, when they really did blow, but OTOH, did you know that Katrina came within a whisker of being Jose? Wouldn't that have been something! Jose gained tropical storm strength for a just a few hours, then disappeared. I really have to wonder whether it would have been "named" in years past.

A SPECIAL ADVISORY ON TROPICAL STORM ZETA IS IN PREPARATION AND WILL BE ISSUED IN AN HOUR OR SO.

Fortunately it isn't tropical storm Maureen.
