New York Says Choose Life License Plate Could Lead to "Road Rage"

The state of New York is attempting to stifle a lawsuit seeking to make “Choose Life” license plates available. Although the lawsuit cites the free speech protection of the first amendment, New York Assistant Solicitor General Jennifer Grace Miller told the 2nd Circuit Court of Appeals that the statement “Choose Life” could lead to road rage.

Judge Dennis Jacobs agreed, suggesting that allowing the phrase could open the door to messages from extremist groups. “If you win, then white supremacist organizations and the Ku Klux Klan can have license plates,” said Judge Jacobs. “There'd be a lot of road rage following that.”

"This case should be of great interest and concern to all New Yorkers, whether they are pro-life or not, because New York has always vigorously defended freedom of speech and equal treatment under the law for every citizen, not just some, " said Dr. Elizabeth Rex, President of The Children First Foundation.

"What is utterly and 'patently offensive' is that Governor Pataki, Attorney General Spitzer, and the DMV are all involved in violating the Constitution, abusing their political offices, and wasting tens of thousands of taxpayer dollars defending an absolutely egregious case of government censorship and discrimination," added Dr. Rex.

The state argued, in a written submission to the appeals court, that the Children First Foundation's plate was rejected in order “to avoid any appearance of governmental support for either side in the divisive national abortion debate.”

The New York State DMV has approved over 200 plates for organizations including labor unions, and religious organizations.

The "Choose Life" license plate originated in Florida and has been approved in 12 other states. More than 60,000 motorists have now raised over $5 million dollars to fund pregnancy resource centers and maternity homes.

Just another attempt by the government to treat us like children. Isn't Pataki a Republican?

Only to a liberal is infanticide the "moderate" course of action. If you think babies should actually come out of the womb alive and in one piece, you are like the Nazis!

This is Pataki's bitch, isn't it? I will be so happy to see that drooling moron and his abortion-funding vampire of a wife driven from politics.

You know these people are hypocrites when you know they would have had no objections to a request for "Support Choice" license plates.

That is true. Also, many pro-life people are seriously armed.

I once had a bumper sticker with a picture of Josef Stalin with the caption "Vote Union". Pretty ballsy for someone in Massachusetts.

The picture of Stalin was probably mistaken for that of Hoffa. snicker-snicker

Years ago, I got kicked off a couple of BBSs on the grounds that my comments provoked liberals to bad behavior.

What's a BBS?

My CNN LIES bumper sticker (the only one on the car) gets me the occasional finger (from what I can only assume are liberals).

Road Rage? Liberal Road Rage?
I thought only knuckle dragging, rednecked, green teeth, low forehead, no necked, gun toting conservatives were the only ones that perpetrated road rage.

However it is kind of an interesting decision by the judge.
To break it down so I can understand it:
"If we allow you to express your opinion, it might piss of the pro-aborts enough to harm you. We are just protecting you."

"What's a BBS?"

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Bulletin_board_system

"My CNN LIES bumper sticker (the only one on the car) gets me the occasional finger (from what I can only assume are liberals)."

A few years ago I worked with a young liberal who seemed to be personable and intelligent, so I thought I might make some headway with demonstrating that the news sources he relied on were lying to him. Needles to say, that didn't go well.

However, it did lead me to understand something...probably something everybody else already knew, but here it is anyway: the single biggest impediment to proving the dishonesty of the LSM to a liberal is that they cannot, emotionally, stand to face the prospect that they could be deceived like that.

They're just too intelligent to be taken in like that, you see. If CNN had been lying every minute of every day since its inception, they would have seen it, because they're so smart. If someone as bright and perceptive as they are hasn't seen it, well, then, it isn't there. Res ipsa loquitur.

To suggest that it is there and they just haven't picked up on it, that the LSM has played them like a violin, is to say that the vast right-wing conspiracy is smarter than they are -- a mortal insult.

If anybody knows a way past that one, please let me in on it. It has me stymied.

Facts without comment, presented dispassionately will sink in to the few truly intelligent Libs...eventually. The problem is that sources a Lib will trust will not allow truths which interfere with their agenda to be told (unless a violent leftward spin is added).

So basically..the pro-abortionists are saying that if they see a "choose life" license plate, the leftists who disagree will resort to "road rage" ???

But they always say that the "pro-life" crowd are the violent ones....

The moderate position on abortion is to be against killing abortion providers and bombing clinics.

Cars with "Keep Abortion Legal" bumper stickers could lead to Road Rage.

Cars with "GLBT Pride" bumper stickers could lead to Road Rage.

Hillary Clinton could lead to Road Rage.

Muslims driving cars could lead to Road Rage.

Cars with "honk if you love Jesus" bumper stickers could lead to Road Rage.

Cars with "W 04" have already lead to Road Rage.

Angry people are going to be angry. They are making an excuse for their behavior when they try to blame it on someone or something else.
