Psalm 67: 1-4
God be merciful unto us, and bless us;
and cause His face to shine upon us; Selah.
That Thy way may be known upon earth,
Thy saving health among all nations.
Let the people praise Thee, O God;
Let all the people praise Thee.
O let the nations be glad and sing for joy;
for Thou shalt judge the people righteously,
and govern the nations upon earth. Selah.

Heavenly Father,

As we enter Day 2 of this year of our Lord, we look to You, our God, to be our help and strength. We ask that You would be merciful unto us, and bless us, and cause Your face to shine upon us, that Your way may be known upon the earth, Your saving health among all the nations. And may we wholeheartedly praise you, O God; let all of us praise You. May all nations of the earth be glad and sing for joy, for You shall judge the people righteously, and You shall govern the nations upon the earth.

Father, as our President returns to his official duties in Washington, please encircle him and his family with Your truth and steadfast love. Be their strength and shield, and let them find solace in your powerful presence. Help our President to fulfill his holy calling on this earth. Give him ears to hear Your voice, and keep his feet from falling into the snares the enemy lays around him. May his every deed be righteous in Your sight. Grant him soundness of mind, strength of body, and wholeness of spirit. Enable him to cast his burdens upon You, for You will sustain him. Shield him from those who speak evil against him and those who seek to destroy his efforts through plots and schemes. Enable him to honor You in all his ways. Be his fortress as he resumes his demanding schedule. Help him to find favor in Your eyes and in the eyes of the American people.

Again we bring before You our Senate and House leaders, Lord, and pray that You would fill their hearts with the desire to do Your will. Give our judges Your wisdom and lead them in Your ways, that they may render judgments that honor You. We pray for the President’s cabinet members and ask that each of them would seek Your direction.

Father, we need Your Holy Spirit to sustain our military men and women as they begin this new year. Give strength to the downtrodden, comfort to the homesick, and protection to all. May victory be the cry of all who are working for the people’s freedom in Iraq and Afghanistan.

Father, please call millions to pray in this nation this week, that we may lift up our country to You and seek Your guidance and will. Grant us the will to pray, the power to pray, the humility to pray, the patience to watch and wait, and the faith in Your promise to respond. Hear our prayers, Mighty God! Bring down upon us Your amazing grace and may Your will be done in America. Be pleased to help us, O God. In the Name of Jesus Christ, Amen.

AMEN FAITH AND GRACE TO ALL BRETHREN!

"Continue in prayer."
- Colossians 4:2

It is interesting to remark how large a portion of Sacred Writ is occupied
with the subject of prayer, either in furnishing examples, enforcing
precepts, or pronouncing promises. We scarcely open the Bible before we
read, "Then began men to call upon the name of the Lord;" and just as we
are about to close the volume, the "Amen" of an earnest supplication meets
our ear. Instances are plentiful. Here we find a wrestling Jacob-there a
Daniel who prayed three times a day-and a David who with all his heart
called upon his God. On the mountain we see Elias; in the dungeon Paul and
Silas. We have multitudes of commands, and myriads of promises. What does
this teach us, but the sacred importance and necessity of prayer? We may
be certain that whatever God has made prominent in his Word, he intended
to be conspicuous in our lives. If he has said much about prayer, it is
because he knows we have much need of it. So deep are our necessities,
that until we are in heaven we must not cease to pray. Dost thou want
nothing? Then, I fear thou dost not know thy poverty. Hast thou no mercy
to ask of God? Then, may the Lord's mercy show thee thy misery! A
prayerless soul is a Christless soul. Prayer is the lisping of the
believing infant, the shout of the fighting believer, the requiem of the
dying saint falling asleep in Jesus. It is the breath, the watchword, the
comfort, the strength, the honour of a Christian. If thou be a child of
God, thou wilt seek thy Father's face, and live in thy Father's love. Pray
that this year thou mayst be holy, humble, zealous, and patient; have
closer communion with Christ, and enter oftener into the banqueting-house
of his love.
Pray that thou mayst be an example and a blessing unto others, and that
thou mayst live more to the glory of thy Master.
The motto for this year must be, "Continue in prayer.
"

Heavenly Father, as we begin a new year, we ask your continued blessings on President Bush, his family, and his administration. Be with them daily as they work to do your will.

We ask blessings for our military and our nation. Bless all who come here to pray. God bless them all.
