The smokers microwave popcorn addicts in my office huddle around the front door microwave, stinking up the place with their second-hand popcorn smoke so that I can't get into through the office without wading through the smoke.

OMG!  Burnt popcorn in an office microwave is THE WORST. Makes me gag.  I'm glad you brought that up!

We have had this discussion, and he say's that for adults long-term problems from second hand smoke is a bunch of hooey... Although, second-hand smoke does ( generally short-term..) contribute to health problems..( ie: ENT type problems..) in small children.

Really?  I was born into a two smoker household.  Never had asthma or health or lung problems.  My daughter was born into a two smoker household.  She has grown in a beautiful young woman with a baby of her own.  She never had asthma or any health problems.

Also, all our pets live long lives and they live in a house of smoker (s).

FWIW...I also was born into a two parent smoker family. No asthma, no long-term problems.

My point was there is some correlation of ENT type problems in young children, secondary to second hand smoke. Otherwise I am in agreement...and many medical professionals that should have a great understanding of the issue..( Pulmologists, Respiratory Therapists, Allergists, etc.. ) think likewise.

FRegards,

I have said all along that second hand smoke was a BS issue.

I've actually seen it provoke Asthma attacks. Outside of that, the discared butts everywhere you look are probably the only real non-smoker societal effect.

I see at least 2 flicked out the window at stoplight daily. Never seen 2 soda cans causally flicked out the window daily, but perhaps it happens.

You wrote:

But I say it's not nearly as disgusting and obnoxious as the totalitarianism behind the smoking bans.

Jeeeepers. To listen to some of you, the only time you clean your clothes is after contact with smokers.
For the record, I clean on a regular basis all of my clothing after wearing it.

I'm just saying from personal experience.

Also, most of the medical professionals HAVE to agree with the studies against second hand smoke today.  If they don't they they will lose out on the huge grants given out by the Robert Wood Johnson Foundation.

The medical profession is cutting off the heads of smokers for blood money.  Hospitals today are desperate for funding, so what would you do?  It's easier to trash a smaller percentage of staff, visitors and patients for the money then to remain silent.

I have seen this happen with our own hospitals.  It's sickening.

I'm with you!  LOL

I always find that good hygiene daily wards off most "stink" that we have to endure in this day and age.  haha!

Or any of the drug laws for that matter.

I still don't understand why people under 18 aren't allowed to smoke. What's wrong with smoking earlier?

Outside of that, the discared butts everywhere you look are probably the only real non-smoker societal effect.

I have a few of these neat little things that are stainless steel tubes with a screw cap on one end and a spring cap on the other. They're about the size of a pen and can be carried in a pocket. I open the spring cap and place a lit cigarette in it and it's out in about 15 seconds -without getting hot, only warm. When the cigarette is out, it can be placed in any proper trashcan.

In my car, I have a little plastic cup that's made for putting out cigarettes. It has groves on the top sides and a hole in the center. I squeeze the lit part into the center hole and when it falls in, I put the cigarette butt in my car's trash bag.

I keep my butts to squeeze out the unsmoked tobacco for more cigarettes -since I started rolling my own- considering the price of cigarettes these days.

One more thing. The tubes put out cigarettes really fast and when you pull it out of the tube, it looks just like a lit cigarette minus the smoke!

VERY handy for fooling the antis into making the silly gestures I mentioned in post #30.

There can be little doubt that breathing second hand smoke is not good for you. Now proving just how bad maybe problematic.

Hey, old buddy. New Jersey goes non-smoking next week. I'm five miles over the border in PA. I now live on a frontier!!!
I bet I'll have trouble getting a seat in my favorite bar, four miles from NJ.

Well, they can get married or join the service before they are 18. You're right. Those laws are pretty silly. Thanks for pointing that out!

You don't live in the right place perhaps. Soda cans are up and down any major highway if you would just care to look. The reason you don't see them "casually flicked out the window" is because there is a big fine involved if the flicker is caught and it is easier to see a soda can then a cig butt so most soda can flickers do it when they won't be caught. Not to mention gum and candy wrappers and any number of other trash items that get tossed onto the road. Trucker bombs come to mind, I believe I would rather see a few cigarette butts that will disolve in the rain and wind on the street than some jerks piss in a plastic bottle.

Years ago, I had stock in American Can. One quarterly mailing had a blurb to the effect that 81 percent of roadside trash wasn't cans or bottles. In other words, one out of five pieces of roadside trash is a can or a bottle.

Actually, the filter parts don't dissolve. They do break apart over time, and I've never heard of them being a factor in endangered species keeling over, whales beaching themselves, or any other environmental disastar. I have, however, seen them being used by birds for nest building purposes.

Some people just see something remotely related to smokers and they get all pissy-faced about it. Replace the word, "Smokers," with any other group and you'll get a better understanding on how to deal with them. Works for me.

I am a non-smoker. Never smoked. I believe that second hand smopke could probably be rough for asthmatics and I dont say IO ednjoy the burning eyes I get around some places but as for the Killer some have tried to make it out to be it just aint so. If people dont want to be in a smoky bar they should stay home.

Sounds great, Randall!

If I can't access an ashtray in a vehicle, I use a Coke Can.  And if I am outside at a function, I carry a Soda can with me just for butts.

I never ever throw them from my vehicle.  Not ever.  I can't even tolerate an idiot who does!
