I'll have to link you up some threads, but pay attention to rutlesforever's analysis.
In this case, one became the PM of Israel by promising a hard line against the Palestinians and an end to appeasement; but then after one was in office, one changed one's policy and led the country down the slippery slope of appeasement; one will now be replaced by Binyamin Netanyahu, who knows how to deal with terrorists. One will be remembered fondly by the PLO in comparison with Netanyahu.

MISC THOUGHTS ON SHARON, TERRORISTS & MORE
BY Steven Plaut
Thursday, January 05, 2006
1. When Sharon dies, one of the biggest questions will be whether the
Israeli police and prosecution will be indicting everyone in Israel who
says "Good riddance" - for "incitement" of course, just like after
Rabin's death. Will the police arrest ONLY "right-wingers" from the Gush Katif movement or also the leftists who will
be saying that. And if the cops do NOT arrest the leftists saying it, it
will because the Israeli establishment only prosecutes "Right-wingers"
for poor taste, and never Left-wingers for treason, and THAT is in many ways a major part of the Sharon legacy.
Keep it up, you are on a roll and it couldn't be said any better.
Yes, prayers for him and his family and the country.
But do you support him or his policies? A resounding no.
Appeasment got you hitlers rise.
He's right about one thing: Whoever gets the job after Sharon is going to have his hands full.
"Whoever gets the job after Sharon is going to have his hands full."
May it please, please be Benjamin Netanyahu, please? Israel, you are at a junction now. Don't make a big mistake in who you hire, and the Deputy PM is not the man to hire. He has dovish propensities and would continue Sharon's evacuations, this time in the West Bank. Be careful, Israel. You will be shrinking in size piece by piece. And Ehud, having been Mayor of Jerusalem, would probably give part of Jerusalem away to the Pali's also.
A tiny little country that becomes even smaller by giving away land won in war is giving up strategic buffer zones. Note how giving up the Gaza territories has done nothing but allow the Pali terrorists to move up even closer to the Israeli border, and continuously lob rockets into Israel proper.
I admire Sharon for what he did when younger, but as an elder, he was seeking his legacy (as is Bush) and wanted to be the one to draw Israel's borders before he died. He almost made it, however thank goodness he will no longer be in power to give away more of Israeli land. May he get better and retire to his farm and smell the roses in the time he has left, unless he doesn't make it, at which time he should get a warrior's funeral, great respect, and honor for what he accomplished earlier in life.
Czechoslovakia would certainly agree with you on that...
'Peace in our time."
Pfaugh!
Because an Axis can only have three members...
Syria was placed in the Axis of Evil standby's.
:-)
You're treating it like a football game. Look at it as a chess game, and see if you come to the same conclusion.
If you ask me, the behavior the Palestinians in Gaza has done more to strengthen Israel's hand than anything in the last 15 years.
Sharon is now dead.
You are exactly right.
It is said that Sharon had a very distinguished record in support of Israel for many decades and therefore certainly knew what he was doing the last few years. But there is the contradiction.
In the last few years his polices were diametrically opposed to his earlier beliefs. Was he wrong then or wrong now. Or as the Liberals always claim, did he "mature" when he turned Leftist and an appeaser.
I was ecstatic when it looked like Sharon was going to be elected PM for the first time. When in Israel it made me glad driving Route 1 from Jerusalem to Tel Aviv with the Sharon election signs lining the highway.
I believe he did so much damage to Israel in the last few years that cumulatively it will negate all the good he did over his life.
Even this monstrosity of a Party he founded. A party of both the Left and the Right. A Party of no principles except the benefit of its power hungry members.
Sharon had a minor stroke last month. He miraculously walked away unharmed. A sane person would be concerned of the danger. Instead he totality ignored the signs and continued doing what he was doing. His current catastrophe is the result.
As he treated his health, so has he treated Israel.
Drudge is backtracking on this, so I will too. Sharon's status is unknown. World Tribune reports that he is dead, but nobody else is reporting this.
Sharon never thought they could be.
He withdrew from Gaza because Israel was not strong enough to evict the Palestinians, and because he thought he could use the withdrawal to make annexation in the West Bank viable.
To try and compare what A. Sharon has done for Israel to Murtha's service is so intellectually lazy I need not even respond.
Learn some history.
Bibi did not distinguish himself when he had his chance.
What Israel needs are men and women not readily known to most Americans. Not necessarily a man with a pretty face.
Moshe Arens or Benny Begin would be good. Others.
But, unfortunately, in the limited choice of the upcoming elections, of those that will likely be in the running, Netanyahu is the clear head and shoulders preference (with a prayer that he learned from his mistakes).
You are terribly uninformed speaking about an issue you obviously no little to nothing about. Take some advice. It is better to keep your mouth shut and be thought of a fool....then to open your mouth and remove all doubt.
To suggest Sharon would "give away" military strategic lands is utterly foolishness. In the essence of just giving them away.
Understand PM Sharon knows about defending Israel and defeating her enemies better then anyone.
It was Commander Sharon who when it appeared to many inside Israel (for apprx 48 hours) that Israel would fall and not survive in the Yom Kippur War 73' - It was Commander Sharon who was brought out of retirement no less to lead Israel to victory by stopping the Egyptian forces.
Over the past 4 years since Sharon has been back in power terror attacks have dropped by over 90% in Israel. That is reality bud. Israel's enemies have nothing but fear and respect for PM Sharon. Period. Which is why he was able to deal from strength.
For you to suggest anything otherwise or to question that Mr. Sharon would give away Israels protection is utterly foolish.
