it will be called "torture" and you know for sure
all of the Dems in the legislative branch will surely
call for an investigation. (probably cause they want
to hear naughty words from someone who means it, and
who isn't being paid(one way or another) to say it)

He suggested how it might arouse her."

It's stupid, and the Lt. is a dullard, but that in no way, shape, or form makes him deserving of a court martial.

Women shouldn't be allowed in the military or the government. Women have a much more higher calling and the attitude to fulfill that calling. Men have their calling to provide and fulfill, as do women. I cherish women who realize and accept their role, a most honorable position. When they demand the role of men, they cease to be "women" and try to become "men".............it don't work, sport.

IMHO, Lt. Bryan's most grievous offense was to demonstrate a total lack of situational awareness. Depending on the environment, this can get you punished or killed.

You shut the harrasser down immediately yourself, and keep others out of it.

Some of the female soldiers I worked with in Iraq.... well, it would have been funny to see some dummy like the Annapolis Lt. say something they didn't like. They didn't have chips on their shoulders, but they had fully adapted to military life (and language).

I'm wondering if rank (or worse E- vs. O-) might play a role here. I'm sure it would. With us civvies there was none of that tension, so the soldiers were pretty much themselves.

He was an instructor at the naval academy and asked a subordinate if she was aroused. He is stupid beyond words.
Anyone defending him as that poor victim. I guess when your wife is at work and her boss ask her if his pencil arouses her you will be good with it. The USNA is supposed to teach professionalism to future officers. This guy is a fool and knew better.

I think the Chinese military sensitivity training consists of telling them to try and avoid stepping on their wounded comrades they leave behind.

Uh, you didn't think about my post at all before you made this ridiculous assertion, did you.

I believe the reprimand was appropriate, possible suspension would be OK. The threat of firing, etc.

Giving him a court martial is like calling the police and going to criminal court for making your remark about pencils.

That is a ridiculous proposition. It stinks to the high-heavens of addlebrained, thoughtless PC madness.

Do you have even thimblefull of understanding about the seriousness of a court martial? Do you? The guy's career is literally ruined because he made one stupid and boorish remark.

Like all PC remedies, the solution is far more unreasonable than the cause.

I'm going to disagree, to a certain degree.

Women should be in the military, if they can meet the same high standards as the men. if they can't cut it, then they shouldn't be there.

Sure seems like it. He's nearing retirement at his peak, and he screws some younger Lt. in the name of .....what? PC?

Uh, you are defensive and didn't realize I was agreeing with you. Relax, take a deep breath. His career was over with out the court-martial as he will be relieved of his teaching duties. And as I have been instructor at TBS for the USMC I have no pity for his plight. He would have been sent packing as a Marine also. He absolutely knew what he said was wrong before he did it.

Sex Signals?

My wife and I have some sex signals.
When she wants sex she is supposed to reach over and yank it once.
When she doesn't want sex she is supposed to reach over and yank it a hundred times.

"Lt. Black made "a crude remark" in the presence of a female midshipman, Samantha Foxton, about how a battleship sexually arouses him. He suggested how it might arouse her."

I would expect that if the comment was directed at my daughter, she, having chosen to be in the Navy, and being descended from a long line of miitary men, would have been able to come up with a a reply that would have left Lt. Black speechless. Sounds as if you could have done the same too!

I know what you're saying, but .....

The military is an organization that is designed to function in the ultimate extreme situation - war. With a strict command-and-control heirarchy, it can only do that when there's respect and trust between the leaders and those led. Isn't that why there are rules about behavior between the two? Troops must respect their leaders, and vice versa.

What he did violated that spirit. He should have known better - ESPECIALLY as a leader.

It is so hard on children whose mom's are in the service.

My daughter gave a surprise party for the child of a single mom that is is Afghanistan. She is living with friends, not even relatives. How sad.

Actually what he was saying was I have no idea about a sewing implement. Of course as he is somewhat clueless he would understand that the court-martial is besides the point to this leader who sacrificed his career in order to ask a subordinate if she was aroused by a battleship. I would love to hear the sound of a 16 inch gun, but find it hard to get aroused by the thought of one personally. A GBU 12 whistling in, that does bring a smile though.
