An Iranian military plane crashed in the northwest of the country on Monday, killing 13 people including the head of the Revolutionary Guards ground forces, Iranian news agencies reported.

The crash came barely a month after a decrepit Iranian military transport plane crashed into the foot of a high-rise housing block after suffering engine failure.

A total of 108 people were killed.

"Hmmmmmmmmm. Could the CIA be more competent than we thought...???"

Little do people know that in the early 50's there was a uprising in Iran against the Shah's father similar to that which occurred in the late 70's. According to news account that I dug out of archives in 1980, one CIA against and 12 Iranian operatives defused the situation using propaganda to discredit the opposition.

The answer is, yes the CIA is efficient, that is when they are not led by a cowardly idiot the likes of Jimmy Carter!

From the IRNA...

The spokesman of the Islamic Revolution's Guard Corps here Monday confirmed that the Commander of Ground Forces of the Islamic Revolution's Guard Corps Ahmad Kazemi was among those killed in the crash Monday morning of a military plane in northwestern Iran.

Talking to IRNA, IRGC spokesman Massoud Jazayeri confirmed that the commander of the 27th Rassoulollah Army Division was martyred in the crash.

He added that the IRGC has launched a probe on the crash and will soon issue an official announcement.

...notice the keyword.

Interesting conjunction : an iranian girl is sentenced to death because she killed her would-be rapist-attacker; then this plane crashes. Could it be that the first event is contributing to the second? Are we seeing the beginnings of a civil war in iran between the crazies and the moderates? The moderates don't want to die in this A MAD IN JIHAD's nuclear death wish, they want to flower into a higher and better life in the modern world. Thus they need our encouragement and support, to sacrifice their lives where it is needed...for the good of all.

does anyone know enough about internal military politics in iran to say what this guy's standing was with the new government? Just because the crash is suspicious doesn't mean it was an external party involved. Even american cabinet-level officials have plane crashes when they are about to cause some trouble (ron brown).

Actually the death-cult phase of islam is fairly recent. I don't think there has been this much raw religious fanaticism in christianity since arguably the 16th and 17th centuries in western europe, discounting N. Ireland, which is a special case with other factors.
