Utah cinema pulls gay cowboy film
The film tells of an enduring romance between two cowboys A cinema in Utah has pulled a scheduled screening of gay Western movie Brokeback Mountain at the last minute.
The Jordan Commons Megaplex in Salt Lake City is owned by Larry Miller, a prominent member of the Mormon church, which is against homosexuality.
Distributor Focus Features said the cinema "reneged on their licensing agreement" hours before it was to open.
Mike Thompson of gay rights group Equality Utah said it was disappointing people were barred from seeing it.
Long-standing romance
"It's just a shame that such a beautiful and award-winning film with so much buzz about it is not being made available to a broad Utah audience because of personal bias," he told the Salt Lake Tribune.
The manager of the cinema declined to comment on the cancellation of the screening.
The adult-rated film focuses on the enduring romantic relationship between two cowboys, played by Heath Ledger and Jake Gyllenhaal.
It has already gained a string of award nominations and is highly tipped as an Oscar contender.
Gayle Ruzicka, president of the conservative Utah Eagle Forum, was in favour of the film being cancelled.
"I just think (pulling the show) tells the young people especially that maybe there is something wrong with this show," she said.
Dang, dem dar, those evil Conservative Lady Thatcher followers will never let her legacy go, better to call the BBC in.
That's because there is....
Is this going to be called a hate crime?
Now there's a clue...
"You "BAH'd" in your sleep..."
"I just think (pulling the show) tells the young people especially that maybe there is something wrong with this show," she said.
Summed it up nicely didn't she?
Aren't movie theaters private property? Why would any theater have to show any movie if they didn't want to?
Perhaps the media needs to realise it's not a proper independent film without them eating pudding. No pudding, no independent film.

The equivalent of playing a hard porn flick with name actors. ("Last Tango..."was soft.)
On my local news, it identified him as Larry Miller, owner of the Utah Jazz basketball team, as opposed to Larry Miller, prominent Mormon.
IMO, their sexual orientation is irrelevant here. What is relevant is that this movie glorifies marital infidelity as long as it's "real love" (or whatever crap Hollywood calls it).
This movie is simply the gay "Bridges of Madison County", another piece of cheating tripe that got critical review and yet glorified marital infidelity.
A private theater owner in your world doesn't have the right to determine which film to show and which not to show?
That's what I've been saying.
I haven't seen you posting for a while, MadIvan. Welcome back.
Say, Tom. Do you have any pudding left?
I ate all mine up, silly.
Well then, now what do we do?
Why dont we just explore our sexuality?
Ooh, good idea. Lets.
Enduring romance or story of infidelity and betrayel? You decide...
Why do you libertarians insist on misusing "censorship?" For there to be censorship, ther has to be a government official acting as censor. Besides, there is a limit to this "forbidden fruit" thing with kids or anyone else. Most kids, like most people are leery of crossing social boundaries.
I'm just sorry to see Heath Ledger turn out to be such a jerk. (Anyone who glorifies this deathstyle on film or otherwise is a jerk, IMHO)
The BBC is having a field day over this movie.
