BANGOR, Maine — Former President Bill Clinton surprised U.S. troops arriving from Iraq when a refueling stop for his private plane at the Bangor International Airport coincided with the arrival of two flights carrying soldiers.

Clinton was returning Monday night from Paris where he had met with French President Jacques Chirac to discuss plans for his charitable organization, the Clinton Foundation.

"Hi, Shancy, it's Bill Clinton," the former president said into the phone..."

"How about I borrow some kneepads from these guys, and you come over to my place?"

Very appropriate that Bill Clinton would meet them in Bangor.

"Clinton's private plane, a Falcon 900, was scheduled to land for fuel and to clear customs, but there was a mechanical problem as well, said Rebecca Hupp, airport manager."

The mechanical problem being Bubba's weiner getting stuck in his zipper.

I thought it was pretty decent of Clintoon to greet the troops. He didn't have to do it, and it wasn't even planned. I don't agree with his politics at all, but I probably would have had a couple things autographed, and some photos snapped, myself.

As is happened my husband was signing his retirement documents on the day that Clinton was inaugurated. We were watching the inauguration on a mega sized TV screen. He was offered a choice of paperwork signed by outgoing George Bush I or by Clinton. I'll leave you to guess ...

"I thought it was pretty decent of Clintoon to greet the troops."

Agreed. Some things are bigger then politics as usual. Greeting returning troops is one of them.

One thing Bill Clinton and W share, is a good sense of humor. When I think of leftists I think of dour, unhappy, miserable people. Even their comedians who get involved in politics (think about the Air America gang) stop being funny. Bill Clinton is the exception. That's one of the reasons why he's one of the few Democrats who claimed success at the national level.

"I probably would have had a couple things autographed..."

Yeah, he could have autographed your penis.

That was low, I shouldn't have said it.

But I did, I'm in that kind of mood.
