There are millions of ex-soldiers & veterans who served their country honorably and would do so again. Murtha is using the shock value of his betrayal to deflect & obfuscate his ethics violations. If Repubs had any balls at all, they would call for an immediate ethics investigation of Murtha and actually do it. Murtha is doing this now so that he can paint the Repubs as bent on vengence if they list him for any ethics violations at all.
