Sony launches gay music label

Sony Music has launched the first major music label dedicated to nurturing lesbian, gay, bisexual and transgender artists.

The label, Music with a Twist, is a joint venture with Wilderness Media & Entertainment, the company led by Matt Farber, who has founded MTV's new gay and lesbian channel LOGO.

"It's an idea whose time has come," Mr Farber said.

"Only now are media and entertainment brands being created for the gay and lesbian audience following the success of brands for other minorities," he said.

Mr Farber says the success of brands dedicated to the African American and Hispanic audiences has helped talent in those communities cross over well beyond their core audiences.

Music With a Twist's roster will feature gay artists who have mass appeal and hit potential across all musical genres.

The label also plans to release various compilations geared toward gay and bisexual audiences, featuring hit songs by established artists that have been embraced by gay, bisexual and transgender audiences, as well as tracks from emerging gay artists.

I am not sure gays want a separate label. This might be a poor marketing strategy.

Answering your question could get me audited by the IRS, CIA, FBI, and whatever 3 letter organization I have never heard of.. I,ll leave that one alone. :) Use your own imagination.

Have you ever heard Rush play Klaus Nomi singing "You Don't Know Me?" That is the gayest thing ever. I don't go in for "camp," but that one is hilarious.

Next two lines in song even worse.

"Get up, get out, you know you, really blew it"
"I've had enough, I've had enough, good God, pluck me"

Coming next - gay acting studios.

Then a gay section of Hollywood.

A gay parade! Gay bars! Gay bathhouses! An entire gay Boulevard!

(hey, wait a minute)

Why is this news?

Honestly.

In Hollywood today - wouldn't a straight label be more remarkable?

Hollywood defines gayness. It's a gay enclave. The industry is overwhelmingly light in the loafers. It's the sort of people who flock to it.

PC has gotten to be so absurdly backwards. (no pun intended)

Is it time for the backlash yet?

I am continually OFFENDED that gays are put in the same minority context with blacks and hispanics.

And I am neither black nor hispanic.

This will go down in flames (sorry). Sony has enough problems selling hits. Gays don't all listen to the same music, they like hit songs just like anyone else...even if a percentage of them buy the music just because it's gay won't justify the costs. Without a hit record they will be just like any other desparate label trying to stay alive. Retailers don't buy the CD's just because of the label..although they may have a good chance to place the CD at Starbucks.

This is a crass publicity stunt created by idiots, including whoever thought kissing up to Matt Farber would help his/her (probably his) career. However, don't disparage all of Sony for what the few libs in NY think is a smart move, a lot of the company will be freaking p**d off with this bonehead move (one of many lately). Also, just so you know the electronics division might as well be a completely different company than music. Sony Corp probably doesn't have a clue this happened (until now).

:o) - Thanks!

We were at a bar in St. John, USVI over Christmas when we noticed it was owned and operated by a gay couple. Actually really friendly guys. In any event, as I am staring out to sea with my Bushwhacker in my hand (no, that's just a drink, nothing sinister) I wondered what I would call a gay bar. Not the usual, "The Rear Entrance" or "Homolulu". All of a sudden I came up with "The Interlewd" and have been dying since then to use it somewhere.

I know, I know...."get a life". :o)

Those lovable Nelson twins, Matthew and Gunnar, sons of the late Ricky Nelson, made a minor blip on the pop-metal scene in the late '80s.

Does that make them gay?
