Shalit regrets 'Brokeback' remarks

Shalit responded on Jan. 10 in a statement sent to GLAAD in which he wrote, "I certainly had no intention of casting aspersions on anyone in the gay community or on the community itself. I regret any emotional hurt that may have resulted from my review of 'Brokeback Mountain.'"

"In describing the behavior of 'Jack,'" he continued, "I used words ('sexual predator') that I now discover have angered, agitated, and hurt many people. I did not intend to use a word that many in the gay community consider incendiary."

In his review, Shalit called the film "wildly over praised" and described Gyllenhaal's character as a "sexual predator" who "tracks Ennis down and coaxes him into sporadic trysts."

You're right about all those things. Resistance to homosexuality is portrayed as the deviance, not the homosexuality itself. It's typical liberal "reasoning:" What's right is wrong.

But we all know that. Anyone with a brain can see that that's upside-down. How has the homo lobby been able to convince so many ostensibly rational people that left is right, strong is weak, and good is bad?

More to the point, how do we fight that perception? How do we return the world to normalcy?

It's old fashioned peer pressure. No one wants to be seen as an outsider, as different. It may sound simplistic, but humans are social animals, the idea of being outside the pack scares the crap out of most people.

More to the point, how do we fight that perception? How do we return the world to normalcy?

I don't have any answers. Most people aren't able to break from the herd, the fear of being rejected by their peer group drives everything they do. Self confidence is a start, but making an active decision to rebel against the perception of what others think is right is beyond the average person.

I'm different, I've been a loner all of my life. I like very few people and couldn't care less what others think of me. It's a natural advantage when it comes to dealing with the name callers and finger waggers. I just don't care.

Glad you're a good typist...it's easy to type 'l' when you mean to type 'k'...

And with that chuckle, I'm gonna open up the first beer of the day.

Sorry about the previous post.

I guess I see more insidious forces at work. Behavior has traditionally been weighed against some social norm, which usually derives from a morality. The concerted effort of the Left for more than half a century has been to detach us from that moral standard, and consequently, to erase those norms. Therefore, when "new" behavior is presented, we have nothing against which to measure its acceptability, so anything goes.

I suspect the homosexual agenda serves two purposes: one, it provides another dialectical wedge to split society; and two, it establishes a sounding board, a yardstick to measure the progress with which our society is decaying (the norms are being destroyed). A society that openly embraces acts as perverted as homosexuality is one whose moral roots have been all but pruned. One that resists the normalization of homosexuality is one that is secure in its notions of right and wrong, and relies on a moral authority to dictate those boundaries.

I would say that America is somewhere between the edges -- not as corrupted as say France or Sweden, but not nearly the upright beacon of righteousness it once was either.

I'll bet he did, there isnt anyone or any organization that dares to go toe to toe with the homosexual lobby. They are enourmously powerful and have people in high places. Will Shalit ever work again. Not much.

A very vicious and influential 2% of the population.

I will never forget what they did to Anita Bryant.

Oh, no. You pegged the "school of fish" mentality perfectly. The Left loves compliant people, unquestioning simpletons who chant the party line between bong hits. They LOVE the notion of peer pressure; why own the sheep when you can own the shepherd?

My question was how do they create that peer pressure to begin with? And it seems to me they tore down the old values then slipped in a fake, superficial set while we were scrambling to fix the old ones.

The antidote to their poison is Truth. Their ideas don't work. They spawn horrible consequences -- some intended, some not -- which the creators ignore as they go on to their next crusade.

Hold them accountable. Demand answers to their failures. HAUNT them with their failures. Remind them every day in every public venue how badly they've botched everything they've touched. It won't stop them, but it will deny them exclusive use of the hall.

In other words, use their own herd mentality against them. Nobody wants to be thought stupid. And to embrace a discredited, outmoded, duplicitous ideology is not only stupid but dangerous.

By the way, Zoidberg is my favorite Futurama character.

They have only the power we let them have. If we'd quit being so scared of them, there isn't squat they could do.

Right now, the homocentric own the hall. With movies, news, and music mostly in the hands of the queer eye set, they set the agenda. Breaking that stranglehold might be possible, but the meme is already in place.

Anyone who believes in racial separation(not superiority) is a Ku Klux Klan member, anyone who owns a gun is a dangerous redneck, anyone who opposes the gay lifestyle is a right wing bigot. "Can't we all just get along?" was such a powerful statement because it triggered the implanted self doubt and self loathing in so many people.

It's going to be nearly impossible to rid peoples minds of the parasite placed there by the left wings decades of reeducation operations.

And Don't get me started on the colleges!

That's what the Germans said about the Nazis.

And they were right. However, they didn't stop letting the thugs push them around, and their cowardice resulted in their society being destroyed.

We're going to have to fight them sooner or later. Why do it when they're at their strongest?
