al-Qaida Leader Not at Site of Airstrike
AP News (via Yahoo!) ^ | January 14, 2006 | Riaz Kahn

Al-Qaida's second-in-command was not at the site of a U.S. airstrike on a Pakistan village near the Afghan border that killed at least 17 people, two senior Pakistani officials said Saturday.

The officials, speaking on condition of anonymity because of the sensitivity of the subject, said that Pakistan's own investigation concluded that Ayman al-Zawahri was not in the village of Damadola.

"Their information was wrong, and our investigations conclude that they acted on a false information," said a senior intelligence official who has direct knowledge of the investigations launched by Pakistan to look into the attacks.

Separately, a senior government official told AP that al-Zawahri was not present at the homes which were attacked.

"He was not there, and this is what we know after a detailed probe" into the incident, he said.

Pakistan's government was expected to formally issue its reaction on the attack later Saturday.

"I find it hilarious that they don't know where he is, but they know for a fact where he wasn't." ---

I thought that was a very sardonic and funny thing you said. Accolades.

Question answered?

Debka also had this report. I posted it on another site and mentioned that the story would be spun to 'no al-Qaeda here, only an innocent family'. http://www.debka.com/headline.php?hid=1636

Well, forget about what I said concerning the report from Fox & Friends....
They had some dude from Pakistan on the phone, named "Akbar," and he gave a live report on the zawahiri story....unfortunately, I couldnt understand a word the guy was saying.....maybe a combo of my bad hearing and his extreme accent.

Me, too. I turned up the TV but I still couldn't understand him. My question is the DNA testing - who would have his DNA to compare it and how did they get it?

"... My question is the DNA testing - who would have his DNA to compare it and how did they get it?"

Good question. My guess is that we got some reference DNA from his family back in Egypt? We got reference DNA on OBL from his family.

So I guess the cover of New York Times will read "US Bombs (targets) women and children in Pakaistan"

The New York Times is on the case in their accustomed manner (my underline):

Pakistan's information minister, Sheik Rashid Ahmed, said in a telephone interview early Saturday that the government was investigating the attack and that he knew that 14 to 15 people had been killed, "mostly civilians." But asked if Mr. Zawahiri was a target of the attack, he said, "We have no confirmation of that."

[snip]

This is the second report of an American attack on civilians in a Pakistani tribal region in recent days. Eight people, including women and children, were reported killed last Saturday when a helicopter fired at the house of a local cleric in North Waziristan close to the Afghan border.

According to the Times, we were attacking civilians, not terrorists and the local citizens who give them food and shelter and who knows what else...

"Thats too bad. But the message that we are on his butt is reinforced, again. The significance here is that we bombed inside Pakistan. "You can run but you can't hide.""

Here comes another Senate investigation into Bush attacking a soverign country. "He abused his executive powers."

Watch, this airstrike was probably conceived by a Clintoon appointee in the CIA.

That was my first thought.

Why come out so quick with this information?

Seems odd.

I realize that most of this current 'news' is foreign sourced and no one can really stop them....

But dang, i'm getting really tired of these:

'I think we got (insert appropriate terrorist executive's name)' reports,

Soon followed by a :

'Well, we didn't get him, but maybe one of the guys we did get might have seen him once.' report.

Just shut up about it until it is absolutely confirmed..... And maybe even keep it secret until you can use it to embarass Kerry, Kennedy, Gore or clinton etc.

You are correct indeed. Think back and ask yourself how many times have we conducted military activity in Pakistan over the past years? We had to have very good reason to go over the border while risking the sensitivities of the anti-U.S. elements in the Paki government. Do not believe much of that comes out of the Paki intel service.

I find it hilarious that they don't know where he is, but they know for a fact where he wasn't. You can't have one without the other.

Of course you can. I have no idea where he is, but I know for a fact that he's not in my house this morning.

So you are saying that Pakistani officials were on the scene at the time of the bombing? I know I wouldn't be searching a village for Zawahiri when I know that there are bombs about to be dropped on it. That leaves two options. 1. The testimony of the local villagers which is unreliable if they are sympathetic to Zawahiri or 2. You know for a fact he wasn't there because you know his location.
