Doctors seek kitchen knife ban EDWARD BLACK

Key points • Doctors claim long kitchen knives serve no purpose except as weapons • 55 out of 108 homicide victims in Scotland were stabbed last year • Police superintendents say a ban would be difficult to enforce

Key quote "Many assaults are impulsive, often triggered by alcohol or misuse of other drugs, and the long pointed kitchen knife is an easily available, potentially lethal weapon, particularly in the domestic setting" - Dr Emma Hern, writing in British Medical Journal

About a year or so ago there was a story posted on FR about a guy in Great Britain who used a dessert spoon to kill somebody. I shudder to think of the mayhem he could have caused had he a more heavy tablespoon instead.

I've seen the ceramic knives. Sweet!

They're expensive, but sharp as HELL. I'm afraid we'd break them somehow!

I think that the nanny state will not be happy until everyone is living in a foam-padded room.

But...you might bite off a piece of foam and choke. This simply will not do!

You can't make this stuff up can you? Exactly how long or short a knife does it take to fatally stab someone? Is it just the point of a knife or the slicing part?

Well, the TSA did ban nail clippers.

They just need to register them and then everyting will be A-OK

Don't forget the mandatory knife locks and a three day waiting period.

Don't fret.
I have a friend who claims he increased the length of his by doing excercises.

This is the first logical step towards depending on the government to provide us our daily gruel ration.

Something very disturbing is happening. From outlawing pointy kitchen utensils to these frequent freak-outs on passenger jets we hear about daily. Stories that would have been beyond belief not long ago. Could there be a link between say global consumption of these new designer anti-depressents and other drugs the multinational drug companies are selling like candy, or some other causative agent? Some may argue that the media is only emphasizing it to make it look bigger, but I sense that is not the case and there really is a sort collective meltdown in the human psyche going on.

An 8" chef's knife is OK, but a 10" is more versatile. I paid over $200 for the one I have now. Nobody but me is allowed to touch it. I have one of those cute knife blocks full of nice sharp knives for the mrs. and guests. They're welcome to play with those.

My favorite trick is to peel a lemon with the big knife, in one spiraling piece. Takes me no more than 7 seconds.

Fortunately it will take them some time to get around to banning rubber chickens.

You think so? I'm betting that within five years, you'll see the Sopranos using them to garrotte people.

They're too light. Not enough heft to be all around tools.

The people in your simulation still have hands (fists), arms (elbows), knees, feet, teeth, and foreheads. In addition, there are also sticks, rocks, and various other things laying about. Also, with sufficient motivation, they could rip that door off and beat one another to death with it. To ensure maximum safety, I recommend removing all the things I mentioned, and trying again.

Let's just do away with people all together. Especially the ones we don't agree with. Republicans, step up please....

Ok, now gun owners, step up please.....

Ok, now people that have EVER had a bad thought about a member of our 'approved minorities list', step up please.....

Sometimes, I agree with those that say liberalism (and its cousin, nanny-statism) is a disease.

Assault knives are merely ugly knives.

If you have a pretty handle, it's OK.
