Childlessness A Sin, Southern Baptist Leader Says
KWTX ^ | 1-17-06

Posted on 01/17/2006 1:31:49 PM PST by WKB

Rev. R. Albert Mohler, Jr., the president of Southern Baptist Theological Seminary, says it's "an absolute revolt against God's design" if husbands and wives purposely avoid bearing children.

On his Web site and other articles and interviews, Mohler argues that "marriage, sex and children are part of one package" and that "to deny any part of this wholeness is to reject God's intention in creation and his mandate revealed in the Bible."

In a CNN interview, the Baptist leader added, “We grow up by having children. Without that responsibility, we have a generation of perpetual adolescents just growing old."

Wasn't God's very first commandment to mankind to be fruitful and multiply?

Yeah, there were two people here then.

You missed the revisions I guess.

"1 Corinthians 2:15 But he that is spiritual judgeth all things..."

And who determines who is spiritual? The person sitting in judgement on everyone else?

Thanks for the support. I do understand the situation but whenever I read any proclamation from such people (preachers and the like), followed by the amens from the choir, it gets my dander up a bit.

I think the point he was making was that what he sees as a delaying of marriage for worldly gain - or material things.

Just as with the original post - we're just getting a portion of something he said - rather than the whole of his words...

I come from the most (well ALMOST most) fundamental of independent Baptist backgrounds. The one thing we learned was that not ALL are called to be married.

All I can think of that he's saying is that he feels that many are called to be married - but would rather stay single for selfish reasons.

<< What changed in 1930? >>

As to that, I don't know.

As to the rest, I'm constantly grateful that my conscience is captive to the Word of God -- and not to repeat the mistakes of others.

So this twit thinks I'm going to a different place than he is when we croak.

I hope not, but for his sake, not mine...

I am willing to bet that you can think of several people just in your town that shouldn't have had kids.

If you miss them in town, turn on Jerry Springer, et al and you'll see a whole bunch of people who are so selfish and screwed up they should never have procreated.

Baptists don't have edicts. They just have preachers who give you an opinion.

Yep.

Christiams should do their best to procreate, but the unsaved world oughta give it a rest.

Also there are people who HAVE kids who are mean and bitter.

I call some of them neighbors.

I call one of them, Mom and another one, Dad.

Do you believe he is wrong?

Or would it just make you feel better if everybody just agreed with your reaction?
